Dare to play... The "Saturn Game Draft"

Just an idea inspired by the NFL and NBA Drafts.
Basically, we'll have a fantasy draft.

Who can enter? Anyone. Although there are certain people I'd love to see play along, anyone is welcome. Certainly, the more experience you have with Saturn the better.

A draft works like this.

Someone starts. Picks a Saturn game. That game is no longer available, on ANY region.

The next person picks a Saturn game.

Who is this next person? Well, anyone who jumps in first. Same rule to the next person. And so on.
Once you draft, you're at that "position" for the rest of the thread, and cannot change it.

There will be rounds. When will the 2nd round begin? Whenever the 1st person drafts his 2nd Saturn game, that's when the 2nd round begins. And the order of the 1st round will be set. However many people participate. It could be as little as 10, or as much as 29 (that would be about an NBA-size draft)

What game to pick? I'd say... don't pick games based on rarity or price... well, you can if you want to. But me, I'll pick the games based on the "you're stuck on an island with these X amount games" mentality. This is not a contest for games of monetary value. This is more a contest for games YOU love to play. But pick the games based on however criteria you want it to be.

Obviously it'll be wise to save a game you love (say... I dunno, World Series Baseball 98, in the later rounds, as it probably will still be alive. Meanwhile, a game like Guardian Heroes, will likely be snatched within the first frame of action)

If someone posts a game, but disappears for the 2nd or X round, we'll just skip him over. Let me post whether it's time to skip him or not. The next guy -- don't just take over whenever you feel like it.

At the end, we'll make a list of our collections, and as you go along, feel free to post "trade offers" like "how about these 3 games for PDS?" We can have some real geeky fun with this, LOL.

So let's start. Who starts? Why, me of course. DUH
:D

Ahhh, securing the #1 pick is such a luxury. Trade the draft choice? Fat chance yo. :)

It's clear the number one game I will snatch off the boards and break everyone's hearts... it also happens to be my favorite Saturn game ever.

Ladies and gentlemen, a drum roll please...

With the first pick, in the 2004 Saturn Game Draft, Steve selects....

Saturn Bomberman... US version... Hudsonsoft

Interview Person: SB, hows it feel to be the number one pick?

SB: Feels great. I'm a legend to Saturn owners worldwide, and I'm glad the legacy lives on.

IP: So many great games out there, but you were choosen first, I'd say I agree. BTW, are you the best Bomberman game EVER?

SB: *flexes* OH YEAH!

Saturn Bomberman Scouting Report

Career Highlights:

-Most multi-player Bomberman title yet
-Ranked #10 on EGM's Top 100 list in Nov. 97 issue #100
-Ranked #37 in SEGA SATURN MAGAZINE's top 50 Saturn games list Feb 1998 issue #28
-Scored 90% by SSM
-Steve's personal rating... 10/10

Pros
------
-Ridiculous downright fun
-Perfect party game
-Soccer net fire!
-Up to 10 players
-Longevity NOT a question mark, amazing replayability
-Anyone can pick up and play
-Options up the wazoo

Cons
------
-10 player game a little small (unless you have a huge TV)
-Only one 10 player stage
-Only 8 battle arenas, 20 would have been jawdroppingly awesome

Overall outlook: A classic timeless Saturn gem, you can't go wrong with Saturn Bomberman.

Bill: Well Steve made a fine fine choice I do believe

Bob: Indeed Bill. There were rumors he'd select World Heroes Perfect with his #1 pick but realistically, we all know WHP will likely be available by round 2,048!

Bill: Watch it Bob, I quite liked it myself. I mean, it's fun using Ryu.

Bob: Uh no Bill. Ryu's in... ah nevermind, they're all the same after all.

Bill: The 2nd choice is currently being processed. Which games do you see being potential #2 picks?

Bob: The usual suspects. Radiant Silvergun, PDS, Guardian Heroes... hell, it could be a real upset. Like Shining the Holy Ark or Sonic Jam...

Bill: Really Bob? Holy Ark or Sonic Jam... those games might sneak into the 2nd round can't they...

Bob: Well, this is said to be the most wild and unpredictable drafts in EONS. Perhaps someone out there loves one or the other so much, he can't afford to wait for the 2nd round. Nothing breaks a heart like seeing your favorite game get snatched up after you got the chance to draft it only because you figured it would be available later.

Bill: Yeah, it's like losing out on that Christmas toy you wanted so badly.... fathers who are too darn lazy to get out the house in time. You know, I still haven't recovered from the SCARS my father Jack gave me. It was the Turboman action figure back in 1982, if he only didn't go to Aunt Edna's house --

Bob: Bill, here, have half a stick of chewing gum. We'll be back with the 2nd draft choice! *mutters* Bill did you take your medication today?!

AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSPORS...

Round 1, Pick #2: Radiant Silvergun (Japanese exclusive ... Treasure)

Nothing needs to be said about this game. Everyone already knows all about it - and with good reason.

This sounds like a cool idea.

Round 1. Pick #3.

Dondonpachi - a great shooter from who else but Cave. A fast paced shooter with an awesome soundtrack. It also has a great chaining system and an additional Saturn mode that both add to the replay value. Definately a solid first round pick.

Round 1. Pick #4: Guardian Heroes

Of course another great game from Treasure. It is a pixel pusher for sure. It's a great two player game with a nice wicked ability to use an undead knight to go crazy and do your bidding. Very awesome game with multi tiered levels and a soundtrack to die for.

Round 1 Pick 5: Night Warriors: Dark Stalker's Revenge

Excellent Title. Kinda suprised Jedah didn't pick this but...
Great characters, music, backgrounds, and combo system. What's not to like?

Round 1: Pick 6 - Dragon Force

So much to learn, I still can't understand the gameplay engine entirely. But it still looks fun.

Was thinking about it, but if I picked any Darkstalkers gane, I'd pick Vampire Savior anyday. Much betetr then the predecessors. Now combos and such and better animation. I thought I would go for a game that wasn't on any other system (PS1 and DC for VS).

How does one team go about winning?
You keep taking drafts to the point of drunkeness. First one to pass out wins. Bonus points for choosing imports over domestics. Points deducted for vomiting.

Pick #14: Panzer Dragoon Zwei

-Easily the best game in the Panzer series, its my favorite of the series and one of the best on rails starfox type shooter off all time.

You just can't beat the music, the story, and the graphics in this top notch saturn title.

If only Team Andromeda would get back together :(

They sorta did. Yoji Ishii (Producer-Panzer Dragoon), Manabu Kusunoki(Art design-Panzer Dragoon), and Hidetoshi Takeshita (Programmer-PD series), went on to create Artoon, which developed "Artoon Fighter" and the more commonly known "Blinx! The Cat".

Sadly, the true genious behind the Panzer Dragoon series, Tomohiro Kondo (Producer-Panzer Dragoon, Producer/Director-Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, PDSaga, PDMini(???)), died back in the late 90s.

As for the excellent music, I have no idea where Yayoi Wachi is(Music-PDIIZwei). Wavemaster member Saori Kobayashi has pretty much headed everything after Zwei though (Saga, Orta). Of course, Azuma's involvement with the original was more of them getting a big Japanese composer to work of the games, though that man has made so many damn Panzer Dragoon albums its insane.

Konami totally kill all Castlevania games with this one, not only the best game, graphics, game play, elements, but Best overall music all arround...
By far, and i mean really far, my favorite Saturn game, way over SOTN....

Ps....can we start round 2, i have some many more favorites to draft

You found Dracula X to be better than SotN? Wow... I must give you props. I haven't played Dracula X myself yet, but most people seem to say SotN is better. Nice to see they could be wrong. :)

#16 Deep Fear, SEGA, JAP only

SEGA's successful attempt at a survival horror game, they made it different enough from RE to work wonderfully. Loads of fun, good graphics, but horrible sound effects.

I wanted to pick Dracula X...
