Jeff,

Looks like Vektorlogic finally got it finished. This is great news for us Neo fans. It looks like there will still be some games to look forward to in the future. The game looks pretty good. I would definitely be interested in checking this out. If you win it, I would like to hear your opinions about the game once you have had some time to play it.

I think this is to be expected since this is their first game they are making. It wont be anything spectacular...but will give them some experience and each susequent release should be better than the previous one. Also, if I'm not mistaken....I think VL mentioned something about working with a very small team as to offset production costs (something to that effect).

This title has to be considered as 'homebrew/unlicensed by SNKP', right?

This meaning, no NGH number for this one, right?

HPMAN missing.

Super Bubble Pop is available at just about any Wal-Mart or store like it for $10 on PC. Let that be known before someone spends a small fortune on one of these and doesn't know what it's like.

Is there no copyright for the other versions of Puzzle Pop, like for the PC,GBA,PSX and such? Or is that game public domain?

A Homebrew Cartridge or a Hack?

Gentlemen,

I think it is really "cruel" to just simply say "looks like ass". Granted, I am not extremely excited about this game, in fact it barely interests me. However, it is great to see that the neo may continue to get support.
:smirk:
The truth is that we already have 2 or 3 think tanks designing and programming homebrew games form the neogeo which is better then nothing. Vektorlogic happens to be one of them and so we should give the game and the company a chance before dismissing the idea itself as garbage.
I wonder though as I checked out the Super Bubble Pop games for other consoles it seemed as though Jaleco may have been the software publisher? This only concerns me because it would really be a waste of time if this homebrew game was really just a translation or hack of a game on another platform rather then an actual original game. Not only because it would then be a "hack" rather then a homebrew effort, but also because then the concerns over copyright issues might plague the damn thing as they did with Diggerman before it.
:oh_no:
Either way, who ever picks one up, it will be nice to see a review.
:spock:
Regards,
Billy

So you'd be all like "WOW, Super Mario Bros. on the Neo Geo, awesome dude! And only $400 for a Kit?? Sign me up!"

That is my concern as well.

In the other thread made by Vektorlogic I thought he said that they had licensed it for other platforms as well as the Neo.

I don't know about you guys, but I do think that this is cool news. As cheesy as homebrew sounds, it could still turn out to be a promising future...

Well, this one's not exactly my cup of tea - but it's good to see that people are keeping the scene alive. I'm still interested to hear how this one stacks up against the other Neo puzzlers.

Yea,I saw the Auction earlier..and remember the thread etc about it..

I'm happy that they are making this kind of stuff for the MVS..I'll take what I can get...I really don't want to spend that much money though....Yet..until I hear some feedback on the game..

Thanks for the comments - just to clear a few points up:

Game is owned by Vektorlogic - we own Super Bubble Pop in toto, IP et al.

Game design - effectively super bubble pop standard but adjusted for the coin op market - gameplay is as per the home versions (ie same controls etc) but it is definitely a different level of gameplay.

Pricing: a tricky one here - you know why SNKP stopped supporting the system - too costly to develop for and due to copying in China. Dev costs for the first game have been huge. There are a lot of experienced guys here on the boards who know how much things cost, but here are some of the items to be paid for before getting a bean back:

New Case Design
Plastic Mould Injection Tooling
Pastic Fab
PCB Designs
PCB Manufacture
Custom IC/ Sec Chip Designs
Parts - a EPROMs/ Sec Devices etc
Artists - 2D
Brochure Design
Coding
Licensing Costs
Development Tools - no we don't just use MAME or RageX - they don't replicate the hardware - NSBP saturated the VLSC to the point where it was unable to draw all of the sprites and half the screen was missing! The ADPCM emus are also way off the mark with frequency response etc - trust me .

It's frightening to even think about - honestly. I have taken the points on board ref Tommy K and there will be some screen shots of that available tonight with some of the new levels incorporated.

For those that got in touch from the boards ref SBP - everyone was told that all bona fide members of NG.com would get a nice healthy discount on the retail price.

Just to clear up the air on Diggerman FYI. This wasn't one of our games and there shouldn't have been any copyright issue but...

The game was coded by Kyle Hodgetts and was a port of Dangerous Dungeons which was originally put on the Double Dragon PCB as a conversion. It certainly wasn't finished by any means as the audio is from another game directly. As usual Kyle did it for Ken at the Game Room in Anaheim and probably did a bunk after getting part paid as usual. It had some data or address lines switched on it but that was the only code variation technique used. There's a marked difference between Diggerman and our new games - hopefully you'll get to see that.

Will put the TK and MP shots up tonight as I have some spare time.

I'd love to know what you do about the neo/snk and development

I just find it so interesting.
