Those of you that remember the arcade version (as I do, I was too young and got beat), remember it used dual screens.

I bet we'll see it for the DS.

or even "Super Punch Out!!"

For the Trifecta, they could also port the lesser known "Arm Wrestling"

That would rock pretty hard. I prefer Super Punchout, but I'd be thrilled to see either one utilize the dual screen.

Arm Wrestling!!! I used to love that game. The Masked Marauder would cheat and try to head butt, the robot would use a magnet....

Wow, it's been two decades!!

Oh come on...

Since when has a Nintendo made handheld system failed?

If there's one thing Nintendo is good at, it's pumping out handhelds like there's no tomorrow and getting the masses to buy them.

At that, even when has a Nintendo console failed?

Virtual Boy is the only example anywhere, even the 'failed' N64 and sort of GCN have made money, and for a business that's good enough.

I'm hopeful - but I can sort of understand the concern about the DS. I think it will do well in Japan, but the willingness of the American public to adopt it, especially given the looming launch of the PSP, is most certainly not a sure thing.

Something radically different like the DS could easily backfire for Nintendo in the States. I hope that it doesn't, but it's a possibility.

True.

But I was trying to stay within the realms of handhelds (and I don't consider the Virtual Boy to be one.) But even with the addition of semi-successful consoles, none of the recent ones [N64 and GCN] have produced nearly the amount of financial income that any of their handhelds have.

A Nintendo handheld = cashcow

There's no denying that.

Sorry Chimp -- although I personally have very little interest in the DS, I seriously doubt it will be anything short of a success.

I understand what u are saying.

I think mainstream America is definately resistant to change unless its a complete fad that some movie star or pop artist gets into.

Nintendo needs to convince us that there is a 'practical' reason why we need 2 screens. If American gamers do see a practical and useful if not at least novel reason to use 2 screens then the DS should do well.

However I predict the Sony PSP will cater to folks like us that will shell out big bucks for some elite overpriced system. It may cater to other gamers that are dedicated PS users.

Personally, i'm rooting for the DS but the PSP's technology and utility is very much superior. Plus its larger screen is a big big bonus.

Demand for DS reservations forced EB and Gamestop to start taking reservations before they had guaranteed supply numbers. In the case of Gamestop, this entailed making the reservations amount $25 ($15 higher than they would usually cxharge) in order to try and ensure they would not go over their supply.

No one even seems to want to preorder a PSP.

Also, Nintendo projects 3.5 mil DS's sold by the PSP launch, whereas analysts predict given the PSP's price point it can't sell 3 mil.

Somehow, I think the DS can more than fight the PSP.

Well all of the Nintendo VS games were two screen werent they?

It would be cool to have ports of all the VS games with link up and stuff.

(or one port with all of them, but you know how nintendo is)

That's good to hear - I hope Nintendo hands their asses to 'em. And I hope that the PSP is riddled with reliability problems  (this shouldn't require too much luck).

Look at the Virtual Boy. One of those ideas that was pretty miserable to begin with, and it WAS supposed to be a "portable" system. It was a complete and total, miserable failure. The DS just sounds like a horrible idea, why put the extra cost into two screens (almost no good applications OTHER THAN RPGs), and what does that make you think about the quality of those two screens, to keep the price down? And what about battery consumption? The whole idea just sounds ridiculous. Seriously, when they announced this, almost everyone's reaction was, WTF?!?! :oh_no:

There's no doubt Nintendo always had success on the Handhelds market even with crappy Gameboy's compared with the competion of its time.

However, the first Gameboy gained very much audience due to the popularity of the NES. Mostly everyone was with Nintendo at that time.

Now Nintendo has a HUGE lead on that market, but for the first time they will have serious competition ( me thinks ). Playstations = cash cow for SONY and the popularity of the PSone/PS2 will indeed be the greatest starting point for SONY to try to dominate another market they're in.

I sincerely hope that Nintendo kicks ass again and people frown upon the PSP.

If the DS outclass the PSP by a huge gap, I sincerly doubt nobody else will try to compete on the Handhelds arena anymore.
