fucking 4 Kids. Can only imagine the edits it will be going through. I wonder what they'll change the name to? Tokyo Mew Mew turned into Hollywood Mew Mew so there's no telling where this will go.

Wonder what content they'll cut out?

The possible silver lining to the story is that Funimation has secured the ability to license unmolested versions of some of 4 Kids other shows, so maybe this will work out OK?

Anyway, here's the press release.

If there is only a 4 Kids version of the show, considering the length in terms of episodes, you can bet your ass I'm not buying these DVDs...

When I read the topic title, I was glad I never broke and bought the HK DVDs. Now I'm back to square one. Eh, I'll just read the comic. Except in very rare cases, the comic is always better anyway.

4kids doesn't release DVDs.

And I whole heartedly support downloading fansubs of 4kids licences. They don't deserve to exist as a company.

Like I said in my original post, hopefully Funimation will secire the rights to release the unmolested One Piece. Of course, it's a really long series and I've read a few of the Manga... I'm not interested anyway. Just figured someone here would be.

Now Loading- Good point on 4Kids & DVDs. All of their released titles so far HAVE had SOME form of DVD release, though 4Kids doesn't do them.

I heard that Mew Mew (or how ever it's spelt) will stay as Tokyo and not Hollywood. But that sucks about 4Kids getting the show. Even though I have met MANY of the actors that work for them, the editing will ruin the show, and I haven't even seen it yet! Hopefully they will release an un-cut DVD like their doing with Shamen King.

I'll stick to the fansubs, I'm sure they'll murder the shit out of this when it comes to the states. I love the show, but I'll be dammed if I ever watch an episode that they bring to the US.

One Piece is pretty fun, but I can't stand series that last more than 50 episodes now. The story suffers so much... look at Naruto.

Except Inuyasha, what happened with that? It's gotten better this season. The animation is on par with the first season, and they are actually filling in plot holes from the first season? Wow.

Oh, sorry I just had to express my amazment at that situation.

Has FUNimation cleaned up their act? Way, way back, I was a huge Dragon Ball fan and they were basically viewed like Nazis. Are they doing better now?

The bad thing about this is, as soon as they start marketing One Piece, I'm sure I'll no longer have the dignity to watch it. It's the same thing that happened with Dragon Ball and it may eventually happen to Naruto.

Actually, both One Piece and Naruto sucked a lot more BEFORE episode 50, and around 50 took off into brilliant series.

And yet the art in both still look like shit compared to the original manga.

And if Naruto would stop fucking explaining how chakra works in every single fucking episode I would probably like it a lot more.

well, I like naruto, its interesting, but I really hate funimation as their ways are stupid as hell, they release an edited version, then a unedited version, then some sort of super version, then a special boxset, its freaking annoying having to wait a long time just to get a whole episode uncut.

I didn't like one piece, but I can imagine that this news must suck for the fans out there.

Naruto on the other hand is brilliant in my opinion.

I have watched the series until ep 80 and I never felt bored during the whole run. Until I find it just as good as rurouni kenshin actually.

Uhm, I'm a bit confused by this statement. Funimation releases an uncut and a cut version of things, like Yu Yu Hakusho, but I've never seen them do another version of a show. They do box sets, just like every other Anime company does, when a series reaches a point where it stops selling and they want to revitalize it. Actually, the only boxset I can think of that Funimation has EVER released was Blue Gender and a Yu YU Hakusho box recently.

As far as Funimation being Nazis, I don't think that is the case now. I mean, they give 2 versions of every show on a DVD. You have the version with the English text on-screen and you have the version with the Japanese text version. This doesn't allow for the greatest of video quality, but is effective.

Funi is behaving now.

Tokyo pop though.....They killed Initial D

I think Naruto will be left untouched if Funi gets it. Though it will cost a fortune to licence

They used to do it with some anime dvd releases, plus (even though I don't like dbz) 2-3 eps per dvd is a rip @ $20 each

Well, they do still do the 3 eps a disc, with 8 discs per series for several things, but I think it has more to do with how much they need to pay to get the license and re-coup their losses.

I've been collecting Anime DVDs since late '98, and have a collection of 1348+ DVDs. The only Funimation releases I've been buying/have bought are Yu Yu Hakusho, Kiddy Grade, Blue Gender (bought the box) and Tenchi GXP. I can't think of anything else Funi that I have, though I do plan on buying 'Case Closed' (aka Detective Conan, and the reason the name was changed before anyone complains is due to legal reasons). Of those 1348 DVDs, only ~250 are live action/Hollywood movies, rest is Anime. I don't recall Funimation ever releasing series in the format you describe, except for MAYBE DB (I wouldn't know, I don't like DB and don't pay attention to it's releases)

Just out of curiousity, what percentage of that have you actually watched?
I have a pile of about 18 DVDs right now that I haven't watched. Generally I only ever have 6-20 DVDs not watched, and I get more every week, basically. The only disc I've had more than 2 months and not watched is Lupin TV disc 1... I got it the week it was released (more than a year ago) and just haven't been in the mood to watch it.

So I've watched, and rewatched, a large portion of my collection. Very few series/DVDs won't ever be rewatched, and usually if that is the case I just sell those discs off and update my count accordingly.

And I say 1348+, but that's counting Digi Packs with 2 or more discs as ONE disc in my count. It's easier to keep track of that way. If I buy a box set that has 2+ separate discs in separate keep cases, they count as 1 each. Outlaw Star counts as 1 each, even though there are 2 discs per case. Macross would count as 9 discs, and so on.
