I've been listening to some Bowie lately, but the only album I liked all the way through was "Station to Station". The rest I own all have some horrible flaw. Like "Low" has a really slow ending. "Young Americans" has that dreadful cover of "Across the Universe" and a few other duds in the middle. Ziggy is an okay album but I really only love 4 songs or so and the rest was kinda ehh... "Earthling" is cool but got tedious; some of the songs drag on. "Let's Dance" is half amazing half ehhh. But the thing is, when I do like a Bowie song I *really* like a Bowie song. "Young Americans" the song has to be one of my favorite songs ever, for example. The first half of "Low" is excellent. Oh yeah, and I also like the stuff he did for the "Labyrinth" soundtrack, even if it's pretty much 80s pop.

Any Bowie fans here? Anyone have any recommendations for if I get another album?

I look mildly like David Bowie... the David Bowie who looks like Ziggy in my sig. My eyes are both the same color, though.

You might think I'm crazy, but I really like Outside. It was conceived as the first of a 2-album story, a bizarre, surreal mystery told through the lyrics. It was supposed to be fair play in that it would be possible to solve the mystery by unraveling the clues of each song. Unfortunately, Outside underperformed sales-wise big time, so the second album with the rest of the clues never materialized. Still a great album. Possibly my favorite Bowie.

it'd be a copout to say the space oddity album. i mean we all love the premise, but the whole space oddity thing is a bit played out. i myself like the let's dance album the best. i love the title track, and i love china girl, and the rest of the album is a trip in itself. then again i have yet to hear a bad bowie song, he's just plain good.

Has anybody actually heard of Brian Eno? He worked with Bowie on a few albums in the 80s and while Bowie is no doubt a genius, Eno's sound is different, but right up there with him in quality. Check out Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) and Here Come the Warm Jets . You will NOT be disappointed.

Eno is amazing. everybody should know who he is (i hope!)

David Bowie's best albums are his greatest hits collections. He just can't make an album that is solid all the way through. I like hunky dory the best (i know I probably spelled that wrong)

OK i've officially owned this thread, nice work ;)

Best album : Station to Station.

Runners in order : Low, Heroes, Lets Dance, Lodger.

ALWAYS, since i knew music been a fan, got big time when i got Heroes around 18.

Bowie > Beatles.

Not for everyone granted, but in mu life, most of the music i listen too seems influenced by him.

Station to Station, what can i say honestly. I listened for the first time to a Tool live album yesterday, the first song, Third Eye or something reeked of S2S, the title track, just totally lamer. It's a rock opus.

On the album we have the title track, amazing. Stay, TVC15.....great (stay a personal fave), and 2 wonderful balads.

Best album ever.

I'll be back when not drunk.

I actually consider Eno to be one of the biggest names in music. The list of big bands he worked or produced is just mind-boggling. The thing is, though, I never really liked the things he worked on all that much. I don't particularly like the things he and Bowie worked on that much. I prefer Bryan Ferry when it comes to Roxy Music. The best things I know of that he worked on was Achtung Baby and Passengers stuff with U2. But the question is... Does his solo stuff sound like the stuff he worked on with early Roxy Music and Bowie or is it totally different?

You can split Bowie fans pretty easy.

Ginger (Stardust/Aladin Snae/DD) etc.

Eno

80's.

I lean towards Eno and 80's onwards (common, Glass Spider is so crap its good).

I do know this for sure, voice :

Bowie > Ferry

Bowie + Ferry = David Sylvian.

...Eno's solo work has never given me interest for persue, I have friend that tells me i'd like some of his 70's work. Unclear.

One wonders the extent of Eno's influence in Bowies "Berlin" work. The music peices on Low & Heroes point at Eno, though Bowie seems keen to promote it. Unclear.

Fo sho, achtung Baby is class. I like what U2 are (probably more to the point, have been), not a massive fan, but that is dead good.

Eno's solo stuff is fucking amazing. You absolutely HAVE to check out the two albums I mentioned, and see for yourself

Songs from the Sacred Napkin

This is a compilation of songs from various artists, I think the only Bowie song on that album is Man Who Sold the World. Good stuff, though.

How could I forget Scary Monsters, I must be losing my touch.

I believe it found popularity among new wave and punk types alike at the time, whatever.....

Probably the last Bowie album before his pop stuff took over in terms of artistry, i'm not sure about the production on the digitally remastered rerelease, i have the original record which sounds better to me, not sure what happened, something wrong with the eq's in my eye.

I haven't listened to enough Bowie to say which album is my fave, but I like 'Changes' a lot, and I LOVE the song 'Dead Man Walking' from Earthling.
