Plot Outline: Two men wake up in the locked lair of a serial killer -- nicknamed "Jigsaw" by the police because of his unusual calling card

not Saw as in Saw... but Saw as in Jigsaw

Every once in awhile, the Sundance Film Festival shows a movie that somehow gets inside your head and won't leave. A few years back, it was a film called the 'Blair Witch Project'. This year the movie is called 'Saw'.

The movie is not a slasher type flick, and it doesn't contain many of the cheap scares that most of today's thrillers tend to have. What it does do, is use it's moody music, jittery camera movements, and lightning paced editing to get in under your skin. Trying not to put any spoilers out there, I won't divulge any of the twists or turns. All I can say is hold on tight, and try not to take your eyes off the screen.

The basic premise is two gentlemen awake to find themselves chained to piping in a dirty abandoned bathroom. Neither of them know how they got there, or why they are there. And to make matters worse, a dead body lays in the middle of the floor, killed by a self inflicted gunshot wound. For the next 100 minutes, your taken on a rollercoaster ride of terror as they piece together their memories, and try to figure out the puzzle of how to escape from the room.

This is one scary movie! At least, in my opinion.

I believe Jigsaw gets it name from sawed up pieces... hence saw, as in jigsaw would still imply a saw... Are you sure that you aren't supposed to take it a bit deeper as in, they are trying to piece back their memories... like what they SAW! Also, memory is fragmented, this could be the puzzle pieces you talk about, but saw is a damaging descriptor... ANYWAY, this rant into the shallow minds of humans is now over.

As for the trailer... looked ok... bit 80ish, but that isn't a bad thing. I'll check it out when it sees a wide release or a suprnova torrent ;)

And since when ever I get playful like this I always get about 6 PMs telling me to stop being an asshole... I'll just say that was mostly sarcastic.

Very kewlsome. Am preferring indie horror films over the modern box office, older 60s ones also thrill me more. Just finished watching The Last Broadcast (interesting, ending was too off kilter in its own way though).

thanks, and keep up the horror updates!

The Last Broadcast is interesting. Some people claim it to be a Blair Witch rip, except it was released 3 months before Blair Witch. But then, I have been talking with theBlair Witch producers, and they have been plotting it out since college. Not the same movie, just some similarities.

The Last Broadcast is special in its own way. Total production cost $900. it was also the first theatre released movie to NEVER go to film whatsoever. Certain theatres round the world were retrofitted digital and the movie was satellite beamed to hard drive.

the story actually holds together quite well. It's not so much blair witch, it is a lot more like Curse of the blair witch.

I love their removal of interlace trick on the video which makes it look like film.

As an interesting other trick, all the gore in the movie is compter overlaid instead of makeup or prosthetics. they figure 20% of the movie is pure computer generated.

It was all done with home equipment, nothing super professional.

Even with all of that, its pretty good. I give it an 8 or so. Ppiuck it up on half.com, 7 or 8 bucks, you cant go wrong. Sure beats picking up the latest teen screamer wannabe TCM....
