Thanks for looking in :)

Having caught the SNK buzz once again I'm now playing my AES a lot more. It's a JAP system with a high serial number 200,000+ and I saw the comparison thread/pics not too long ago and noticed that my picture via my scart plug whilst looks clear, you can see those lines that go down vertically about 1cm apart, sorry haven't got the pics to show what I mean.

Anyway, I was thinking about getting my system modded whilst installing the uni bios chip so which is better? I always thought RGB was the best image available, not only on the Neo (I use RGB scart on all my consoles and dvd players) and saw that raven games here in the UK do the Mod for £35.

But then there's the S-video mod so which is better in your opinions guys? Also is there a reputable UK forum member who performs such mods and installations?

Cheers

You are in England with TV's that can display RGB through scart.Thats it, thats all you need to know, why downgrade the signal to some crappy s-vhs picture?

I sold my Panasonic Q for the simple reason that the best signal that the dvd player can output is crappy s-vhs and my standalone dvd player runs through rgb so the Q had to go.A nice looking machine but a totally shit video output for us over here.

Either get an earlier model AES if you can(pre 90k serial number) or get Raven to do the rgb mod for you.

Have both, RGB kills s-video, no question

Get the RGB mod done. Much cheaper than the s-video mod and in the UK you have scart, so no need to bother with s-video.

From what I understand, the home cart system is not designed to output s-video and special modifications need to be added. Whereas the home cart system does output rgb straight out of the box and the rgb mod to clean up the output is much simpler.

The higher serial number machines that I have had output awful rgb, the one with all the white lines. Try to find a forum member to do the rgb mod, though. 35 UKP sounds too expensive. I had mine done for $25. The difference is amazing.

The member MKL is very knowledgeable about these things and I believe that he also performs the rgb mod. Although I have never dealt with him, I always refer to his posts in the tech forums for reliable and relevant information. I think he's in Italy.

Thaks for both replies guys, I always though RGB was the best output widely available, I just needed to know which option would get rid of those lines, seems that RGB still wins :)

Many thanks!

I wouldn't trust Raven tbh :D and I've also heard the mod can have dodgy white levels, or something. You might find it easier to sell yours and buy one with a sub 60k serial. They look great.
And I say sub 60,000 because I've seen a few AES's and a seventy something gave the same RGB output as an eighty something and ninety something whereas a fourty something and fifty something were noticeably sharper. Anything under 120k gives an OK RGB image tbh but the lower ones are worth hunting down.

Hey,
My AES is a jap model at #333,883
I grilled MKL about performing the RGB bypass mod, and have some really good info about how to do it, I thought I would make a post with all that at some point but haven't found the dang time yet.
Anyways, I performed the op on my Neo, and can say if you have a steady hand and some tape, it's not difficult at all, but really, i'm serious about the steady hand bit, the points you need to solder to are very close i.m.o.
The result of the mod is fantastic, the vertical stripes are gone, colours are vibrant, and the screen is sharp and clear. If you can't do it yourself, get it done by someone else, it's so worth it. If you want me to post the info a.s.a.p. just PM me. (I even have 2 jpgs that show what to do)
