As far as we can gather, Advance Guardian Heroes isn't a conversion of the Saturn original. The story and world of the game will be the same, but otherwise we're not entirely sure - maybe it'll be more of a remake.

Whatever the case, we are rather looking forward to it, part of the reason being that Treasure are doing the development thing on behalf of Sega. Modes of play seem to include a single player story mode, which can also be played co-operatively with a pal, a VS mode for up to four players, and training. Four difficulty levels will be provided to ensure it's accessible to everyone.

It's due in Japan in September - for Game Boy Advance, of course. And if you're wondering why we're so unsure about everything, it's because the information comes from our translating the game's Japanese website.

Maybe its just me, but it doesn't look that great. I still have faith that it will be great, but I'm concerned at the lack of enemies. I guess there is a limit due to the GBA screen size. Thoughts?

It looks so simple, sprites so small. Doesn't look like a Guardian Heroes game at all... :(

GBA could never do Saturn graphics. If its the same people behind this than the original it will probably still be excellent. If not it may well dissapoint.

Infact, this reminds me of when they used to port megadrive games to Gamegear - remember gunstar heroes and streets of rage 1 and 2? this looks almost like a souped up gamegear game.

I'd love to see them ditch this and just make a new Guardian Heroes for the Gamecube.

looks really stale and generic. characters are dull and gameplay looks boring. i just cant see a super chaotic game being possible on the gba. this includes any genre. i forsee a slow, boring beat em up with like 6 people max on the screen.

Thanks for the update. I really hope this turns out ok, but we'll just have to wait until we get our hands on it and play it to make a decision about Guardian Heroes Advance. I still need to get a Saturn and a copy of Guardian Heroes.

Hey, I'm the first guy to attack the "LET'S PORT EVERYTHING TO GBA!" mentality, but these are just some screenshots. I was one of the only guys here who was all pissy about the news of this game to begin with, but now I'm going to be the only guy here trying to defend it at all. :p

First, the Saturn version didn't have great graphics. Second, this looks like a faithful reproduction of the style of the Saturn version on the GBA. Third, I don't see how it matters if it LOOKS boring. The question is if it WILL BE boring. I agree that they should just make a new one on a next-gen console, but at least if it has to be on the GBA I hope it ends up being different enough to warrant a purchase. And I hope it's not boring.

That game looks like PURE SHIT! *Great way to fuck up the legacy of the original game by taking the green haired Serena and company out of it and replacing it with dwarfed over SD styled characters. The world is truly begining to spiral to it's doom indeed.

Have any of you played the original Guardian Heroes recently? Seriously?

K...

Overall, pretty clunky 1 player. I also got into some infinite juggles thanks to the boss on, like, the 3rd stage. Granted, I don't really remember how to play 100%... but clunky.

2 player is better - it's fun setting up juggles and such with a partner. Less mashy-mashy.

Music is 100 times better than I remembered.

Graphics still look nice. Plenty of slowdown though.

If the GBA version follows the same template, it has no chance... 2 player support just won't happen, the music won't be close, graphics won't be close... a clunky, 1 player, portable game.

God I love that music...

If it's a direct port of the Saturn Guardian Heroes, then it's gonna be crap, but, if it's a brand new game, it may be worth checking out. Looks can be deceiving....

Yea, this sure looks like a gimped version of the Saturn version - but hey, as far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as a bad beat em up. I bet Atlus will bring this here.

I haven't played the original in years, but it looks like, at least graphically, that it's fairly faithful to the art style of the original, taking into account the limitations of the GBA.

But as I said though, it's been years since I've played it, so I might be wrong here.

Either way, I'm keeping an eye on this, and will probably import it if it's not picked up for U.S. distribution.

Perhaps a new Radiant Silvergun game? (and no, Ikaruga doesn't count!)

I played it on thursday evening (picked up a mint UK copy from my local gamestation of all places). It still rocks as much as I remembered back in 1996 or whenever I first played it. I didn't remember the slowdown tho, but it doesn't deytract from the game too much.

This is supposed to be a sequel to the Saturn original, not a port, so I still hoping that this will be cool in the same way Ikaruga is cool compared to radiant silvergun.

Does anyone know what other games treasure are working on right now?
