Cab Moniter Question - Help.

I have this moniter in my cab, that makes a loud hum whenever anything
white is on screen.

At first, I thought it was the grounding in the house, so I got that fixed.

Still happens...so I turn to you guys.

The problem is that sometimes it does it, and sometimes it doesn't...like
I'll boot the cab up and it'll have the inital Hum, then it'll go away...about
3-4 minutes later, while playing...I'll hear HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Like a really high pitched steady noise, but when it goes to a black screen
or something, the noise stops...a screen with a lot of white like a chara.
select screen will be next, and when it pops up...the hum comes back?

I dunno what knob I could mess with on the back of the moniter to fix it,
or is there another way?

I've been dealing with this for several months now, and I'd really like to
fix it.

:crying:

Thanks,

shir0

This sounds like your problem, and the fix is surprisingly low-tech :-)

That fix is for a ringing line flyback transformer, I think we may have a noisy mains isolation transformer here. The brighter the screen the more beam current, the more current drawn by the monitor from the transformer. The worse it gets.

Is it
hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
OR
sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Are we talking whistle or hum here ?

The isolation transformer just went out on a cab I'm selling... It sucks! I just tested the cab, worked fine, and then drove 4.5 hours to deliver it to get there and the monitor wouldn't come up -- a high pitched noise coming from the cab. I looked at it and the noise is coming from the isolation transformer... Nothing I could do about it on the spot so I threw the cab back into the truck and left.

Now, where on earth am I going to get an isolation transformer for this thing... I don't want to spend $300 on a new monitor... Would Happ happen to have a universal part that would work for what I need? I need to go check.

The cabinet is a Neo 25 (yes, the one I was selling in the selling forum). It's a Toshiba tube and TOEI TC-A252K display board. The number on top of the transformer is CVT-005B.

Anyone have to replace one of these yet? Now, to see what I can do about locating a part.

Have you tried a TV repair shop?

I feel for you. Monitors are a pain to fix :very_ang: Try a TV repairshop, maybe they can point you in the right direction.
Good luck

Yeah, I've never messed with monitor repairs, so I'm a little reluctant to take it on myself. I really don't want to screw up and send 20,000 volts though my body...

I took a pic of what I need. If anyone knows where I can get one, I would be greatful:

I think its your isolation transformer ringing.

So how exactly do I locate where and what the isolation transformer is?

This is my moniter: http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/4900.html

How do I stop the ringing? Dan said they had a Tut on the site he gave me,
but I didn't see it? Unless this is it: http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/iso.html
but that looks complicated as HELL. Any simple methods?

I also looked at the flyback transformer, but it didn't look loose at all.

Thanks,

I think we have a mains frequency hum/buzz from the mains isolation transformer, not a ringing from the line flyback transformer.

ShirO, follow the mains input cable, it will go the the iso transformer maybe via a mains fuse and mains switch. Its a slightly different set up with cabs in countries with 220-240 volts mains, the isolating transformer is actually a step down transformer, not a 1:1 isolation transformer. Locate it and listen to the noise, you should be able to confirm the location and source of the noise fairly easily.

I have no idea what the mains input cable is, but I've looked and I see 400
wires...although there seems to be one large red wire...check the moniter
pic in the post I had above this.

Edit: I found where it was coming from:

I took my flashlight and pressed against it, and it stopped for as long as
I held it there, but only if I'd hold it at a certain angle, otherwise it'd make
a louder humming noise?

Hmm.

Thanks,

shir0

What type of fix did they do?

Hey xtoo_short20x:

What type of fix did they do for you? What type of turn around time do they have? I tried to find their website, no luck (googled it), do they have another site?
Thank :D

OK so it was a ringing lfbt.(Hssssssssssssss) Try loosening those bolts on the bracket on top of the transformer, move the bracket a little, then tighten them up again. It may be as simple as that.

The monitor on my red 2-slot went out, and it was showing a green horizontal
line in the middle of it. I sent the board to them and it looks like they just
gave me a new board. I sent it on a monday, the board was back on friday.
My monitor works good now.

Will I kill myself reaching in and moving it around? Electricity and I
don't get along - and I'm not sure how long it stays in the moniter.

Thanks,

If in doubt do not touch, get someone who understands the safety issues to do it.

With the monitor unplugged and the anode cap connected to the tube you should be OK.
