Blazing Star froze up on me

I just recieved a copy of Blazing Star today and my fiance was testing it out. She got pretty far (dont know exactly what stage) but she told me that the freaking thing froze. I got pissed, turned it off. Im just wondering what may have been some reasons behind it doing that.

I have a 4slot board in a candy cab.

So is this common with dirty boards, dirty carts, bad carts, bad boards?

Should I expect this from other games?
