Just thought I'd let leepantalone know this, so he can stop
making shitty threads about a cat, and start making threads
about Prision Sex and Swamps.

Okay, way to compare two insanely different bands. Tool is great, but your point is nil. Primus is thrash-funk. Tool is psychedelic metal/who knows what the fuck they are classified as.

You are an asshole and Tool is still better than Primus.

Good, glad we cleared that up.

They will be next week's "greatest band ever."

I still like Undertow a little better than Mer De Noms.

Hey man, ever heard of Kyuss? In my opinion they have the greatest album of all time in "Welcome to Sky Valley." Tool is never reluctant to point out the fact that Kyuss is one of, if no THE, biggest inspiration they draw from. Not only that, Tool routinely covers Kyuss songs on tour as a means of tribute. Kyuss sounds drasctically different (more on the stoner-rock side [in fact, they invented the genre]) but one can definitely hear how Tool has borrowed some of their sound. I recommend that you sit down with Sky Valley or Blues for the Red Sun and really let it sink in. Don't expect it to sound like a Tool clone, and it may take a few listens before their genious sinks in, but it's their man. Just keep an open mind and listen.

Primus kicks ass. Tool kicks ass. Maynard's the man. Claypool's the man.

Listen to Kyuss.

Tool??

They must be great as it seem no one bothered to launch them in the UK.

Probably too dumbed down for our expansive minds to deal with.

Kyuss seems to have a much larger following today than they did when they were still together given that they are "the fathers of stoner rock" and some stoner rock has seeped into the mainstream - greatly watering down the genre and making much of it unlistenable. Back in the day when they were touring no one knew about them, but today bands like Tool seem to be paying their tributes. Kyuss never got any radio play and they never will. They didn't believe in songs made exclusively for the radio, they believed an album should flow from start to finish. For example, Sky Valley is broken up into "three chapters," each chapter contains three songs. Skipping a song on your cd player will jump to the next chapter, so it kind of forces you to listen to the album as a whole, or at least in very large pieces. It is hard to fathom, but if you're a fan of any sort of stoner rock I definitely recommend picking up "Welcome to Sky Valley." While I don't really consider Tool stoner rock almost all hardcore Tool fans appreciate and respect, if not love, Kyuss. I suggest you go pick up Welcome to Sky Valley. Before you put it in do not expect anything, just chill and listen to it from start to finish, and repeat if need be.

It is a fucking masterpiece.

I'm going to have to check out Kyuss now after listening to samples. I'm always looking for new bands to swoon over. And that means I'm going to have to buy the album. Asshole, making me spend money.

By the way, anybody listen to

Heard of them? Most definitely. I was shocked and devastated when Lynn Strait died. I miss Dobbs too...

Very nice. My recommendation is to go with "Welcome to Sky Valley." I would suggest "Blues for the Red Sun" as a second option. "And the Circus Leaves Town" is a good album, but it's not up to par with the other two (although some seem to love it.) "Wretch," their first album, is a decent effort but far below the other three as they hadn't yet found their sound/style.

Enjoy.

I have heard of Snot, but only because half the band was in Amen... that and the Straight Up... a tribute to Snot album that came out a few years ago.

Question...

Isn't there some kind of connection between Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, something like half of Kyuss went on to form QOTSA?

Oh yeah and even though TOOL and Primus are completely different styles of music Tool > Primus any day of the week. Don't get me wrong Primus is fucking awesome... I would just rather listen to TOOL. As a matter of fact, I'm going to see Primus next Tuesday when they come to town. Primus puts on an excelent live set... I can't wait. :D

Ok i'm gonna give this TOOL band an honest chance, what do i REALLY want to look out for.

I just started giving a live album of theirs a listen (Salival??) which started with a 15 minute song called the third eye or something which was completely aimless. The 2nd track was better, but the third brought ulmtimate mundanity back . Do they completely revel in slow tempo bore rock, or is there an element of enjoyment to be had here??
