As far as the Anime, I've only seen the first disc so far. The first 3 episodes or so are kinda boring and not all that funny, IMO, but it really picks up and has the feel of the Manga after that. From what I understand the rest of the series is as good as eps 4-5, so it should be good.
My disc 2 actually shipped 2 days ago, so I should have it by the weekend. If I get a chance to watch it, I'll let you know how it is.

What did I tell you when the manga first came out?slerch666 said:As far as the Anime, I've only seen the first disc so far. The first 3 episodes or so are kinda boring and not all that funny, IMO, but it really picks up and has the feel of the Manga after that.

Anyway, it never gets as good as the manga, and the direction falls flat on its FACE a couple times, somethings are taken WAY differently then in the manga (like when Sakaki leaves Yamamaya. The anime REALLY fucked up with that one...)
However, the voice cast is excellent. (Mmm... Kagura)
And even with all those faults... I still love it. Because it's Azumanga Daioh, and Azumanga Daioh is great.
), but you are right, I don't know that it could be as good as the Manga. The bar is set a bit high with the Manga and just about any attempt at animating would tend, IMO, to not quite reach the bar. I'm just glad they didn't animate the manga 'line for line' and put other little stories in as well.

I watched it subbed, though I did read the Manga in English as well. As I've been sleeping with Anime for a while now, I can 'get the idea' when a pun is introduced in a Manga so long as it retains it's Japanese roots. I have also learned enough spoken Japanese to be able to understand the simpler shows. I'd never get the puns in Urusei Yatsura without assistance or be able to understand a Gundam show, but with simpler things, take the Cutie Honey TV series, I may miss things, but I am able to grasp the fundamentals and get a good enough concept of what is going on to justify watching the R2 discs even though they aren't subbed. I'd never be able to watch UY or Gundam without subs and expect to understand even a little of what is going on. Subbed in English works fine for me though!![]()

The part the anime did best was the last episode.slerch666 said:I don't know, there are some really funny scenes (almost all of the 'swimming' session in the school pool), but you are right, I don't know that it could be as good as the Manga. Hmm... why do you like Kagura's voice.... LOL![]()
Yotsubato! is so much better in those areas.Verythrax said:Fantastic series. A series about NOTHING, no fanservice, nothing, but so hilarious and good. Buy it with your eys closed. But only if it had the original japanese dub option.
The only manga thig ommited that I really missed is the Magnatron Burger![]()
