I only recently got into the PSX, during the 32bit war I was Sega Saturn all the way and moved onto the Dreamcast then xbox, finally with the PSX dead I feel no guilt in owning one ;). I got it mainly for Metal Slug and Metal Slug X but have been slowly getting more cheap games from forum members. I'll post what I have so far later, but what should I look out for in the way of 2D? I am very keen on the capcom stuff as it's been a fairly closed door to me until I played Xmen Vs Streetfighter and I'm hooked after all the SNK years to something fresh (even with the tag battle gone as I never played this in the arcade to compare to I'm loving every second of it) What other non 2D games (I know the PSX sucks at 2D but with everything so cheap I don't give a fuck) should I look for?

Raiden Project is probably my favorite shooter for that system - great fun with 2 peeps. In the Hunt is also excellent, although not quite in the same league with RP. Raystorm, again good, but not as good as RP.

Oh, and a warning --- STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM SAM SHO III!!!

They really butchered that one for PS1. I think that's part of the reason why it's my least favorite SS (my first exposure to ss3 was on the PS1).

The Mary-Kate and Ashley games are good if you're into that kinda stuff. One mention of "You got it, dude!" and I just get all wobbly inside (but not so wobbly outside :emb: ).
Whatever floats your boat I guess

Street Fighter Alpha 2 is great, I don't think they could possibly screw up a port of it to the PSX (I've never played it). And didn't they release Bubble Bobble for the PSX?

I'd fuck 'em - even though Hollywood has probably hoed 'em out by now :oh_no:.

Get yourself a Namco Light Gun, and Point Blank 1-3. Absolutely without question the best light gun games EVER.

Other than that, FF Tactics (actually the only FF game I don't reccomend is VIII, I hated that faggot game) , Legend of Mana , Megaman X 4-6, hmm...there's gotta be more. I'm sure the rereleases of FFV and VI are good, but I've never played em.
Resident Evil obviously. I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Glad your enjoying the games. Anyways, if you want some super fantab games, you weren't really specific on what kind.

Ridge Racer Type 4 is one of the best games on the system
Silent Hill still has alot of chills in it, even after it has aged
Gradius Gaiden is probably one of the best shooters on the system.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 is actually a faily competent port for the PS1
Tomba and Tomba 2 are some really unique platformers

There is alot of stuff out there. Most of the games in my selling thread are good, *hint* ;)

The original first three Biohazard (RE) games.
The whole DMC/Onimusha survival genre started here.

The first 3 Tomb Raider games.
The series peaked at TR2, if you're only going to play one TR game, TR2 is the one.

Of course you should get the best conversions of two of the best shooters of the nineties:

Donpachi and Dodonpachi! DDP's a little hard to get a hold of though, but the first one can be had dirt cheap on eBay. You should also get Rapid Reload if you can. It's an OK Metal Slug/Gunstar Heroes clone. (Ah, I see it's mentioned in the previous post)

vandal hearts is a super game, I personally never played the suikoden games
but have heard they are great.
I would also recommend any of the deception games.
some of tecmo's overlooked titles.
I'm a fan of the rr games of course.
for the price you can find them for, they are worth owning.
I guess I would reccomend some of the squaresoft titles too like parasite eve and
the final fantasy's if you're into rpgs.
it's almost disappointing that alot of companies have gone to realtime graphics
to tell the story ala mgs instead of the more costly cg route
like just about any square games from that era.
I think they still stuff cgs in their games, but I haven't kept up with their stuff too much.
nowadays you just have a really nice intro and that's it.
