New Xbox, games, modding?

My brother got an xbox for his b'day. What are some good games for starters (planning to get KoToR; already have Halo)? Also, if you get it modded, what is it capable of?

Highly recommended games on the Box:

Jet Set Radio Future
Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition
Project Gotham Racing 2
Otogi
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams

Plenty more exist - those are just the ones that sprang to mind aside from Halo and KOTOR.

Modding lets you do....practically everything.
