I have a 6 slot board (with 3 games in it)

left to it's own devices it will cycle through all the games in attract mode for ever more.

But if you hit game select button it will cycle through the games and then when it reaches the cart in the highest numbered slot it will reset on cycling back to the lowest numbered cart regardless of it it is coined up or not (obvioulsy if it is coined up you loose all credits upon the reset

it dosen't always do this. Sometimes it will cycle through all three games a number of times without resetting and it dosent seem to be related to the order the carts are inserted (which rules out a defective cart) or which slots are used 1-3, 2-4, 3-5, 4-6

but when it does it it is always when trying to cycle from the highest to the lowest numbered cart.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Have you tried resetting the RAM? Simple but effective for a lot of my problems.

Go into Test Mode and do Hardware test, then hit the 1p button until it says press ABC to clear RAM

Also, are you using the standard bios or have you replaced it with a unibios or debug bios?

I've changed nothing on it. So unless the previous owner has (unlikely as it came direct from an operator) it is standard BIOS

checked the voltage. it was very high 5.56v have turned it down to 5.02v

could find a RAM reset option but found one marcked "clear backup". when i did this all my high scores dissapeared so it did something.

However the problem is still there.

Im not really here to help your situation but I do want to say thank you to Lithy for that info on resetting RAM. I never knew about that. Im sure there are other things like this that I do not know about.

One general misnomer is about the Neo Geo being voltage sensitive. I have never found that to be the case. Now, with Galaga, if you BREATHE on the power supply, you tend to reset it.

What hgames do you have? As a rule, if thereis any game newer than Metal SLug #1, I find it suspect in terms of the cycling. Perhaps changing the order of the cartridges may help out? The later cartridges, especially the 3rd partty have some programming problems which I only heard about after I left SNK. Mainly, some newer carts don't like to play well with others. so anything after MS1 I suspect, but that is me...

The universe bios may help but I couldent garantee it. Im intrested to know what bios is actually in the 6slot at present though, maybe its some well early bugged version or something.

@harani. If you go into test mode is there a number in the top right corner of the screen. If so, what is it? Also do you have both select buttons set up (to cycle in both directions). If so does it reset going from 1 to 6 or does in only affect going from 6 to 1 like you already mention? Finally, while letting it run through attract mode do you see the 'winners dont use drugs' screens?

My own opinion is that the system is resetting due to a timeout on the sound init once its cycled through all carts via forcing it (with select button). I have no idea why this would happen unless its a bios bug. Or game incompatability.

there isn't a winners don't use drugs screen.

there is no version number on the screen.

When i enter test mode the screens are exactly as described in this manual

I persoanlly suspect MS2. Try using one cart at a time. The order of carts may also change things...
