I was just playing my Japanese Saturn on a Sony Wega and am stunned at how good the games looked and sounded - even though I have had a Saturn since it came out. It doesn't get enough mention and I know there is a hardcore following, since quite a few of the games cost a decent amount.

My question is - is there any major site(s) on the web that cater for Saturn fans? Is there anything as cool as ng.com for this system? I haven't found any and have been thinking for a few months now that t could be cool to get one done. Would this garner interest do you think? I mean, the neo has a small library and is an exclusive, niche system - the Saturn is not quite that so it may be dificult to pull something off as thorough as this site. Ho hum. Let me know what you think and if you know of any sites related to the Saturn. Big thanks in advance

I still check www.sega-saturn.com once in a while... still the best Saturn site ever, especially for user reviews, opinions and such.

For message boards, believe it or not the Saturn General Board at GameFAQS is quite damn good. I love it there.... I post there under KIKKO

By the way, that thread where you reviewed various obscure saturn games was brilliant. Hope you do another some time. Ever get to play a fighting game called RABBIT? I think I played it in the arcades but I may be wrong.

Thanks, you're too kind. :loco:

As for RABBIT, haha, I see it sitting here as we type. :p

It's funky, and the animation is a lil rough... I wouldn't pay more than 15 shipped for it. I keep it only because I'm a 2D fighter fan and it's decent/unique enough to be kept in my collection. The fighters all have "animal spirits." It is not executed as cool as it sounds, but isn't a horrible fighter. Just not a very stellar one....

I'm sure Rabbit never saw an US arcade release. I know it was made by some Korean company. Dunno if an arcade of it exists, anywhere, period.

cool. I have a vague memory of playing this game back in London though.
Crows Battle Action is on ebay!! unfortunately shipping is only for north america :( that game looks awesome.

I am also trying to land nazomakaimura complete and mint as I love the makaimura games. then there are 2 more obscure saturn games I'd like to have - both are 3d platformers (I think) - one casts a super deformed ninja ninja as the main character and is an of shoot of an early famicom game(s) (which I think is by Jaleco) - the other is quite colorful and has a fox as the main character - very japanese.. if anyone knows anything about these games please let me know how they play/look.

I've often wondered this myself. Some guy was auctioning www.segasaturn.co.uk a few months back on ebay, and I thought about bidding then creating my own site, as the ones that are about don't seem that great.

just saw jp.' sig. looks like he's had the same idea and is getting it done. I may still go for it though, but its probably not as easy as it sounds. You really have to work out a perspective that is going to be interestig to the collective.

Saturn isn't the only system that lacks anything substantial on the net. Megadrive is in the same boat I think, in so far as many of its games are very much collectible as opposed to, say, Super Famicom - and yet there is no point of convergence for collectors like there is with the neo geo scene. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have yet to find something approaching the class of NG.com

just checked out the saturn general board, and it seems very cool but way under-developped.

by the way, Steve, do you still have Crows? is it good when compared to other side scrollers (particularly the capcom ones)? It kind of reminds me of combat tibes game graphics-wise. Thing is about 70% of beat 'em ups are broken tedium nonsence (though it is my favourite genre), so I am always weary of picking one up (heh, as if I could just 'pick' Crows up) I haven't yet played.

Haha, I never had it, but I do now. :D

Go here for the scoop and impressions. You're right. Graphically it is kinda like the Combatribes, which was one of my favorite digs on SNES.... must have rented it like 7 times...... and the stages in Crows are about as short as Combatribes, only you go thru multiple tiny "stages" until you face an end boss, whereas in Combatribes you had to face a boss at the conclusion of each stage.

In fact, don't even call them stages in Crows. I'd call them..... "junctions." ;)

Indeed. 21 shmups to go, 153 games (not including that 21 shmups) left to review. Then teh site shall go up, complete with soundtrack information, over 300 reviews (including every frickin' single shmup and 2D fighter), message boards, videos (including a 1-life run through Taroumaru), actual screen shots, etc. etc. etc.

But, at my current rate of 1 shmup a month, it could be awhile. :glee:
Though the review bit won't be too bad, as I'm currently averaging 10 a week (mind you, these are for games I've had for several years now, I only review something once I've put in at least 10 hours into it).

There's not much in the way of information, but this site has really high quality archives of Saturn covers, which are pretty interesting.
