But don't buy cheap quality, information is too valuable.

Western Digital, Maxtor, or Seagate are all good pics. Look out for store rebates. Sometimes even Best Buy will have killer rebates available. I bought a 120GB Baracuda for $70 retail, after a $50 MFR MIR and a $20 Best Buy MIR about 3 months ago.

Be careful with Price Watch, as some of those stories seem to be of a shadier quality, but I agree with everything Electroman sais (especially not going for cheap quality, as you really don't want to lose your data, especially THAT much data).

You pay what for you get, don't be surprised if you get a cheap hard drive, it corrupted not long after you get. Hard Drive is cruical in a computer, it holds your OS, your programs, your personal files, etc. It's better just to buy a good brand, or if you have an old computer, just to buy entire new computer. Computers are relatively cheap now days. But, you can find hard drives at bestbuy.com or pcparts.com

Or you could back it all up by buying 2 - 120 GB drives and using one for backup purposes only.

It should also be noted that HDDs warranties are now only 1 yr standard. If you desire the old 3 yr warranty, there are drives manufactured by all the big players that offer the 3 yr warranty... at an extra cost. However, that warranty covers basically any damage to a drive, other than dropping it and stupid user problems.

You can also buy a external hard drive that hooks up to your USB. They cost around $200 or more, but, you don't have to get rid of the hard drive that you have now.

Ehh... for some reason it has been my experience that external USB2/Fire wire drives tend to crash quicker than an internal drive, especially when the person doesn't know how to disconnect or turn it off properly. That would be an option however.
