...by now I'm sure we've all seen the infamous "nut grab" at the end of the E3 2004 MGS III Snake Eater trailer, but did anyone else pick up on the fact that the dude who got his nuts grabbed looks an awful lot like Raiden only with silver hair? ---His father maybe?

Test tube babies run a muck in Kojima's world. What do you think?

Just fought "Fortune" for the first time. It's where I left off the first time I owned the game when I said "MEH" to Raiden. I've still got a ways I'm sure, but I had some more important things than games come up. I'm going to be playing it most of the day though since I'm off work.

My thoughts exactly.

*SPOILERS*

Mr. President grabbing Raiden's crotch and saying "Oh! You're a man!" is something that should have never occured.

*Semi-SPOILERS*

It's because he was expecting someone specific (who I won't name for Merc's sake), to come and assassinate him. Someone from a certain (I won't name here, but you know what I'm talking about) group, who was a woman. This is backed up at a couple points in the plot.

I agree it was weird, but let's save discussion of it until he's had a chance to play it for himself.

Well Raiden is pretty womanish.

And is probably a clone.

I noticed this as well, and it made me recall both Raiden and certain Sons of Liberty moments. If you have not yet finished Sons of Liberty... you should!

...and the fight continues. *Honestly you cannot ruin the experience for me even if you tell me ahead of time. I've had people tell me an entire film and then go see it and it's still "Woah that ruled". ---If he's not a clone, then there's something fishy about the Russian "Kumabala" dude that THE COLONEL nut grabs back in 1964. I'm begining to wonder if by the end of Snake Eater any of this will have happened at all... is Kojima working the Matsumoto Verse where multiple "realities" exist parallel... is this the memories of people who's very memories became apart of a silicon chip that in a sense is a Sensorium Overmind Control System V.R. construct? Some of the refrences in the tag lines of that trailer have me wondering on that note too. Stuff like: MGS is revived to survive the future??? Some of the in-between hints point in this direction of "OMCS" V.R. Constructs within a fiber optic digital realm, that borders on what Ryosuke Takahashi came up with for the invention of the Wiseman super computer that has assimilated literally 2,000 years worth of "Potentials" amongst a mutated Genome manipulated super soldier race earlier in that exterterestrial past known as THE OVERMEN in the series Armored Trooper VOTOMS. *Wiseman actually thought itself to be GOD and looked for a suitable heir in which to transplant 2,000 years of knowledge into a living "God Man" to rule the Astragius Galaxy... only the main protagonist of VOTOMS did something Wiseman didn't predict possible?

...With my ability to see things that aren't there that always were there to begin with in some fashion, I'm actually hoping I'm wrong on all of this, but having watched that trailer 195 times and breaking down the fine points, it seems that what awaits me in beating MGS II "Sons of Liberty" might very well prove to be something more along these lines and the entire franchise is actually about differing "realities" both past and future within the moment. I sure as fuck hope he doesn't go THE MATRIX route and link it all to the human race being slaves to some over tryrannical system and "SNAKE" must be ressurected from the past to save humanity and were then re-born from the seed of BIG BOSS.

anyhow, the silver haired dude HAS to be connected to RAIDEN somehow indeed. :spock:

I wouldn't read into it to much yet. It could have just been a joke thrown in by Kojima. Who knows, that part might not even be in the game.

My thoughts exactly. Was this guy trying to break into directing or what? Anyway, every time you beat a boss/level or whatever, you could go and fix yourself a sandwich and still have time left over to maybe get a good workout in or something.

Since you've read Philip K. Dick, I'll say that I'm thinking maybe on a similar line to his Ubik. Maybe a slight shade of the Lynch film, Lost Highway. But then again, that movie has colored the way I see a lot of things...

Mercenary X99, finish the game! Please!

Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty is a great game, in every aspect, you should enjoy the last hours of this game very much.

And, for people who dislike cut-scenes and a lot of story/plot, go play some Neo-Geo games!

the ending is what ruined that damn game. out of the last 2 hours of gametime you spend like 10 minutes actually playing the game. the final 1:50:00 is spent listening to a boring, convoluted, over extended script from hell that would make the most amateur of novels seem like shakespear.

and yeah Hideo Kojima said on numerous occasions that he wants to take the metal gear series as close to an interactive movie as possible, hence the confusing as fuck storyline. yes he can make an awesome game but somebody needs to keep that maniac in check for mgs3.

Without a doubt the white-haired woman, white-haired man, and Raiden are all related in some way. It's no coincidence they look alike. Perhaps they are just a separate clone series of soldiers designed with assassination skills. And only a select few know of their true existence/nature. Which is why you only see the higher ups "cup-checking" them when confronted.

Maybe you'll find out that MGS3 is actually just the fininshed VR project they were working on in MGS2: Sons of Liberty. Remember that whole thing with Raiden and recreating the Shadow Moses experience with him?

All speculation aside, the only thing for sure is that we'll find out when Konami decides to release the final product.

Rather than "confusing as fuck," I see it as being a bit post modern...that things get so ridiculous, past the point that you're able to believe them at all, that it's trying to give you clues that what you're seeing literally, is maybe not what's actually happening, like in the Lee Marvin movie, Point Blank. Which was totally missing from the fun but shallow remake, Mel Gibson's Payback. Someone else somewhere (forget where I saw it now) made a connection to some of the absurdist novels of Haruki Murakami, and I can see that a bit in the storytelling style Kojima uses. The end, I mean the very end, not the dialogue before the final fight or the Jack/Rose dialogue, is surreal as hell.

yes its pretty obvious what kojima is trying to accomplish but he goes overkill bigtyme and it just turns a possibly cool story into a bumbling mess. he went through like 10 pages of text to drive home a single point, something that could have been accomplished with a single paragraph. multiply this times the amount of points needed to get across throughout the entire game and you have one huge mess of a story. by the end nothing was a shock because the player was bombarded with "shocking fact" after "shocking fact" for about four hours straight, to the point that the only "shocking" thing was the fact you werent holding down the x button to skip through all the bullshit. the only surreal part was when the codec was malfunctioning and all that bizarre shit was happening.

the best part was the tanker episode, it was golden. too bad it was such a small portion of the game.

lol the last 30 minutes of MGS2 was simply, pure bullshit. Everything just goes so COMPLETELY over the top i couldn't help but laugh. I mean, your in a base fighting of some miltary types, fair does, then im in the set of fucking TRON fighting big robots!?1?!? Then im on top of some bleedin' cruisliner in the middle of nowhere while a man with a possesed arm barks at me (simply what was ocelots purpose in this game after the inital tanker scene? what a waste) Then said cruiseliner folds up like a transformer and crashes into town (GUFAW). Then some skeleton talks to you for halfanhour before you have a swordfight with your 2nd cousin twice removed adopted test tube doc octo father, then watch as you stand in the middle of town while all these guys and gals in suits just go on their dinner break from work like nothing happened, while you got these 2 guys looking like a sore thumb from the 80's standing around talking about dog tags and stuff. WTFWTFWTF :spock:

I think you're missing the point. I think the "shocking facts" aren't the point of the story, and that the "mess" was completely intentional, and meant to be a completely unbelievable mess. He seems to have put great effort to make sure that there is no way you could possibly accept the story at face value. It's too over the top. Way too over.

Plisken seems a lot closer to understanding, but he doesn't seem to want to accept. If you take the story literally, you are in trouble.

Pretty close, but it was mainly because I saw "nutgrabbed", "Snake Eater" and "Raiden". ;)
