Jeez, I must have the worst fucking luck or something.

I just bought RalliSport Challenge 2 today and been playing it for a while. I got somewhat far and I got a disc reading error once or twice. Now I'm trying to play the game again and it just keeps fucking up over and over again. It fucked up so many times when I was playing career mode that it fucked up my profile and now I can't even access that. I tried cleaning the disc and that didn't work either, in fact it seemed to make it worse and now I can't even enter races now. ALL I ASK FOR IS TO PLAY THROUGH ONE FUCKING RACE AND SAVE THE MOTHER FUCKING GAME. JESUS, I SWEAR TO GOD IF IT DOES THIS SHIT ANYMORE I'M GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE A MOTHER FUCKING AXE TO MY XBOX.

Yes, I do need to relieve my anger somehow.

how old is your xbox? it's common knowledge some of the early ones from 2001/2002 get fucked over time with DDREs, just get a new one, it's only 129.

I'm letting it cool off right now, but I just got RalliSport Challenge 2 today and I've been having fun playing it online. I'm going to try it again in a second.

I finished one race and it fucked up again. Man, I wish there was some remedy for it right now like the PS2s had when it got fucked up.

Yeah I got 1 twice

once in Kakuto Chojin (as a BSOD)

and again when I first popped in Ninja Gaiden

But they have not repeated

Microsoft can fix it for you if it's a bum drive and you are still under warrantee

I had this problem with the Xbox I manly use..... with certain games.
I can put that same game in the other Xbox (not used as much) and It'll work fine.

I figure the mainly used Xbox is overheating so I put a small fan on one side of it blowing into it to cool it off.

I use one of those small power supply type fans hooked up to a 10V power supply.(Radio Shack)

It does the job..Ever since I did that the Xbox doesn't freeze up anymore etc..

Yikes, sounds like a PS2 horror story. I got one of the later model boxes (with JSRF/Sega GT pack-in), and I haven't had any probs.

Where are the recent XBOX manufactured (should tell you on the bottom)

I have an early first run XBOX made in of all places Hungry works just fine.

Where your XBOX was made actually does make a difference

my xbox is from april 2002, never had one DDRE with the exception of a couple Halo systemlink games starting (a couple out of hundreds), and EVERYONE has had that prob with Halo at least once.

the problem is with these faulty drives lasers, it has nothing to do with the disc being dirty or anything, you just need a new system.

it all has to do with if you're unlucky getting lemons, my launch PSX from 1995 still doesn't skip a beat, and that system had a horrible reputation.

you can try calling MSFT and bullshitting your way to getting a replacement for free + shipping if you complain you bought it recently and it's an old defective unit, i know a couple people who did that.

It seems to be a problem if you have the Thompson Drive.... I know my xbox has the T drive, so I don't know what to do if/when it dies.

try erasing your ralisport data then starting a new one.
Thanks, I'll try that and update a little later to see what happens.

If there's one lesson I've learned out of buying consoles recently is that I should wait until like 2-3 years later when they are cheaper and not going to break down on me. My PS2 from 2003 is an excellent system and has not had a single DRE.

My first xbox is the Sega GT/JSRF one, and it totally refuses to read CvS2, and has trouble with other games. Since that one is modded, I got a Halo xbox to use with live, so far so good, I hope it doesn't start doing the same crap.

XBOX is about as stable as Windows.

Is that supposed to be funny?

If these were still the Windows 98 days, then saying something has windows stability would be a rather nasty insult. However, xp stability is really pretty decent, so SSS's comment really doesn't mean all that much.

Meanwhile my old PSX just crapped out on me...Yesterday!!

Just by posting in this thread our X-Box's have been cursed.

Luckily the only problems I've had were solved by cleaning the crap off of some rental games.

From all Xboxs I sold at my store, I only had one that returned with problems.

It just couldn't read ANY disc. everything was ok except for the drive.

I got a message like that : "Please Insert a Xbox DVD media disc, the drive is either empty or the disc needs to be cleaned" <-something like that.

It was a 2002 model.

Sounds like you got a Thomson. My friend just last week bought 3 different XBoxes, first the dreaded Thompson, which doesn't work 98% of the time with any game manufactured after Simpsons Road Rage
Thomson

Then a Samsung, which supposedly works fine, but my friend just got a bunk used one I guess Samsung

And finally the Philips, hasn't fucked up once yet
Philips

Good luck with your problems, hope you your Box is still under warranty ;)

that's bullshit, the drive model has nothing to do with it, it was the laser itself, which is the same on all those drives, they only have different bios (some read DVD+Rs, some don't ect.) and door tray shapes. I have a launch tompson and never had a problem.

although i know someone with the samsung drive who had to buy a new one cause of DDREs. if you buy an xbox now you have NOTHING to worry about, unless it's new old stock from 2001-2002, those were the years they had probs with batches of systems. it's definetly not worse than the PS2 tho, that system still has lemons coming off the assembly line.

But it messed up over SSX3.... can never get to play this damn game through in 1 seating... it either stop loading or simply hang before it loads..

But it aint software prob. it works well on others....
