I know theres been tons of polls and threads regarding the best KOF, etc. Looking at the recent poll its pretty clear that 98 has taken the cake. I'm more interested in your thoughts of the 2k series (00,01,02,03).
The same poll as of right now shows that 2k2 is the favorite but not by as large a margin as 98 has on the entire series. I'd like your thoughts on the 2ks as I am lookin to purchase one soon.

These are the current results of 55 total votes on another poll in this forum:
KOF 2000 14
KOF 2001 9
KOF 2002 17
KOF 2003 15

overall the best of the 2ks is what im lookin for: Gameplay, Graphics, Music, Fun, etc.

thanks for your input.

My 2k-KoFs ranking list would be

2k1
(2k3)
2k2
2k

2k1 is my fave of the newer KoFs, perhaps this will be different when I get more 2k2 comp. on Xbox Live, if I ever manage to change my ISP.

I've put 2k3 in brackets because I haven't played it long enough to be sure about it but I enjoy it so far. Seems fresh and a bit crazy but that's in order I guess.

2k2 may be a good competitive KoF but I still don't dig it enough.

2k is kinda okay-ish, nothing really wrong here except for the abuseable strikers and some engine oddities. I love parts of the artwork and specially the soundtrack.

1) 2k1 -- Looks like shit, sounds like shit, plays like a dream; my personal favorite KOF.

2) 2k2 -- The KOF I'm forced to like because it's currently the most played in the competitive circle. I honestly don't care that much for it compared to... well... pretty much every other KOF, but once you get used to it and find good people to play with it is highly enjoyable.

3) 2k -- Probably my favorite looking and sounding KOF, but the madness with the Striker system isn't for me. I do enjoy playing around in 'Practice Mode' and just going combo crazy with various characters and striker setups.

4) 2k3 -- Haven't played it enough to judge it, and I have real no interest in doing so either.

That's a really tough order because out of that group, the games that are really strong in one area are pretty weak in another.

In the end, you'll have to decide which area is more important to you: Graphics and music (KOF2000), or gameplay (KOF '01, '02). Fun is subjective.

Depending on what kind of player you are (serious competetive or just play casually for fun), maybe '03 could be a good choice. The shortcomings in gameplay only appear above a certain level of play, and while it doesn't look or sound as nice as 2000, aesthetically it's a good couple steps above '01 or '02.

My personal choice is '02 for gameplay and roster. Runner up is '01 for gameplay and roster. When it came time for me to finally buy one of the 2k games on MVS, I spent a couple weeks weighing them, and trying to decide which areas were most important. In a way, it was hard not to pick 2000, because of its being SNK's last KOF, and how they threw so much SNK history into the game (characters from across SNK history as strikers), destroying Southtown literally and figuratively at the end of the game really hit home, and so much effort was obviously put in to the music and backgrounds.

But in the end, I could only afford one (and only wanted to take one slot away from my FF games...), and I decided that most important to me was gameplay and roster. '02 has pretty much all my favorite characters from every year. And except for Vanessa, most of my favorite versions of characters.

should'nt 2000 be separated form 2001-2003?
, cuz 2000 was still made by the original SNK, the others are by eolith/playmore/snkp... among the KOF's not done by the former SNK, my fave would be 2003, cuz 2001 looked awful, but played good, 2002 was just a rehash, still nice gameplay additons, but 2003 gave kof a "boost" which the series needed... overall, imo, 2003 is just the more FUN game ;)

For single player (vs CPU) I feel that KOF 2003 is far and away the better game.

It may have a few issues with priorities but that's about it.

The game plays very different to previous KOF's, more like a combination of Rage Of The Dragons and KOF 2000 for feel and style. The game is much faster than any of the other KOF's and I feel has by far the best polished presentation and graphics (KOF00 comes close for presentation).

The fact that it's got an abusable, and he's a great character to play anyway.

There's something about 03 that makes it my most played KOF cart. The overall style is much darker, more like SVC than say KOF98.

At the end of the day any of the 2000+ KOF's is great, don't believe that stuff about KOF01 sounding terrible, it's got a fantastic drum and base / techno style soundtrack :)

Damn, this is a tough rank... The post '99 series are some of my favorite KoF's I just got 2003 last night, so I haven't really got to put much time into it. Barring 03 I would go:

KoF 01
KoF 02
KoF 00

I'd go with:

KOF 2000-Love the music, looks sharp, love all the strikers even more.

KOF 2003-Gave the series a whole new style to it, as well as bringing back some cool characters (Hinako, Jhun, King) and at the same time bringing in some MOTW and I love the new Hero Team.

KOF 2002-An updated version of KOF 98. Brought back the Orochi's and the Max mode canceling system rules.

KOF 2001- Love the art, good battle system, but I think it falls a little short compared to its brethren. Not to mention characters like May Lee and Hidern can ruin the game very easy for you if you're playing with a jackass.

1. kof 2k2- This game is SO good 2 players. It has my favorite characters, Shermie, Yashiro, and a visicious version of Billy Kane.

2. kof 2k3- So much fun, great changes and ASH

3. Kof 2k1 or kof 2k- Great games!

Overall KOF after 99 is a little strange, cause the graphics don't improve, they just get different. I'm really anxious to see what KOF 04 looks like.

00 - I simply don't like the strikers stuff. Impressive music and bgs.

01 - Shit IMHO.

02 - If you loved 98, you will love this too. Recommended! The one of 2k that I played most.

03 - Liked the innovation a lot. But it must not appraise some hardcore KOF fans. A very good game.

For me, it's a close call between 02 and 03. I would pick 03, but 02 'looks' more like a KOF.
