Can anybody tell me the differences between the US and JAP Version PS2 Ports from KOF 2000/KOF 2001 (exception the language)

(Mai's Bouncy Mode ?, Blood ?)

and also what about the US/JAP Version Differences on the Dreamcast KOF 99 (EVO) Port ?

One difference of US and JPN versions of KOF 2000/2001 is that they're sold seperately. They're not in a pack like the US. They're both seperate games. Probably the difference in the language is in Japanese, and Mai bouncy, but, nothing real serious. Unless you're crazy about Mai being bouncy, then, you should just buy a KOF 2000/2001 from Ebgames for only $29.99. If you buy the JPN versions of them, you have to buy them seperately.

'99 Evo US lost connectivity with the Neo Pocket's Battle De Paradise but I can assume that the rest of the porting is more or less straightforeward. If only they'd left in Whip's Desert Eagle!

As stated earlier, blood and bounce are removed in the US ports of 2000/2001, and of course the story is in English, so it's a trade off.

The US version of '99 Evo (the port of KOF '99) has bounce, I'm not sure about blood, but there is some editing from the Japanese version. Notably, the Korea team's ending, which in the Japanese version shows Chang and Choi murdering Kim and Jhun (well, fantasizing about it, anyway), covered in blood, with the sillouette of Kim and Jhun's hacked to pieces bodies, including Kim's decapitated head(!). In the US version, the blood (there was a lot of it) is changed to blue paint and Kim's decapitated head is removed from the picture. Doesn't really change the game, and I can count the number of times I played as the full Korean team on one hand anyway, but you asked for changes, so there you go. I am the king of run on sentences.

So those are the only differences?

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about the editing in KOF 00/01 for PS2, and he thinks SNK edited out Whip's gun by themselves, and not have SCEA edit it.

So, why were these games edited? Why was Mai's bounce taken away, why was Whip's gun taken away, and did SCEA really force SNK to edit those out?

Who knows why SNKP felt they had to take that stuff out for US release...but they are edited in the same way the US MVS releases were, for whatever that's worth. 2000 was the first year they started editing Mai's "bounce" even on MVS (before that, it had only been taken out of home release). SCEA had nothing to do with the editing. Nothing.

Wow..

Just wow.

I was aware of SNK USA editing out stuff for the AES games, but up until today I never knew SNK USA was responsible for the edits in the PS2 KOF 00/01. I had always thought it was SCEA, but now I know the truth.

Why does SNK USA do that? Why do they edit their own games? It just doesn't make sense.

they have a very strange censorship policy....

They edit mai's bounce and all that yet we have games like GTA that let you decapitate people and murder prostitutes.

I never really understood it , i would think that if people are OK with that then they wouldnt need to edit it...

Actually, it's not SNK USA that did it, it's SNK of Japan.

They did it to home releases from KOF '94 on; if you play on JPN system, everything is there... if you play on US system, it's not. Who knows why they did it originally... Some theories point to all the heat some games like Mortal Kombat were taking at that period in time, and maybe they wanted to avoid any potential problems, but stuff like that are just guesses.

SNK USA actually went out of their way to get us a completely uncut version of SVC for Xbox. At first, the US version was going to be censored like the arcade release was. Then they worked it so that you'd be able to switch languages, and when playing in Japanese language it would be uncut. Then, somehow, they managed to work it so that the English version was uncut, which is the first time I can remember a port being less edited than the MVS release.

So I've gone from being SNK USA's harshest critic, to being pretty appreciative of them. Sure, not much of that stuff affects gameplay (well, Whip's missing move does), but it's always much nicer to get a complete release, if possible.
