In the currently issue of EGM, it states that John Woo will be involved in the film. If that's true I will watch solely because he had something to do with it.

I see Samus running in slow motion... enemies coming around a corner in pursuit... JUMP CUT TO: White Pigeons taking flight {sound of wings flapping drown out the music partially} ... Samus goes into a spin... Arm Cannon raised and begins firing... JUMP CUT TO: White Pigeons then SMASH CUT TO: Enemies being torn to pieces by her salvo 0.2 seconds of continued slow mo, and then BOOM back into normal mode... Herione music plays loudly.

...I've got about as much faith in this project as I do in morphing into a dragon and farting my way to Mars to link up with Quaid and battle Cohagen and his minions, where I'd morph back into a tri-handed, double penised "Warrior" reaping the spoils of three tititted women at a brothel. ---JW has sucked nuts at almost everything he's done stateside save Wind Talkers and Hard Target... attaching him to a METROID film is craptastic indeed. And ain't no one going ot be happy with whomever is casted as Samus either.

Yeah, I'm wondering if she'll even be wearing her power suit in the movie, or if they'll just stick her in the bikini the entire time.

I'm not a huge fan of John Woo, so hopefully his influence will be as minimal as possible. I think this could actually be a pretty cool movie, especially if they effectively use that great Metroid music (probably my favorite in a video game).

From what I read hes only involved with the production. It's unsudden if hes going to direct.

What...exactly do you assume the "production" of a movie entails? The producer has the most creative control out of ANYONE on board since he/she is footing a large part of the bill. (Executive Producers, by their title, do have some creative input, but are usually people who funded the production to get their name in the credits, one of the reasons Tom Cruise "Executive Produced" Narc)

And unsuddenly isn't a word.

later,

I aced this p0st

a while back I found the most bitchin' music clip off Kazaa, simply titled "Metroid Techno Remix"...
6 minutes of pure old school badness

if you haven't heard it yet look it up, you'll be quite pleased

This might possibly be the worst idea for a movie, ever.

Its up there with the "live action" Transformers movie project and "live action" DBZ movie project on the "YEE HAW THIS IS GONNA SUCK A BIG FLOPPY ONE" scale for sure.

Whats to explain?

The only reason this movie is being made is to sell Metroid merchandise to the public, plain and simple. There is no need for a Metroid movie. The narrative in the game is structured for the game. Hollywood screen writers will concoct something that has nothing to do with anything in any Metroid game, a studio exec will say "Yeah, this will sell some merch for us" and then John Woo will grind it out.

Outside of that, videogames do not translate well to live action, here's some examples: Double Dragon, Mario Bros., Resident Evil, House of the Dead, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter. The only way games translate well to any sort of film is through anime, and even then its dicy at best.

Doesn't answer why this is a bad idea for a movie. I think, done right, it'd make an excellent film.

Is it a bad idea to ATTEMPT making this film? Definitely. It'll likely be a lump of shit.

I agree. However, historically, the odds are stacked against a successful Metroid movie. I really want to believe, but my pragmatic side will not permit.
