Anyone looking forward to this?

I am, simply because I accept is will likely fall into the same pattern of the directors other movies (Stargate, ID4, Godzilla, etc):
The movie will take a cool concept and run with it for about 40 minutes and then become a standard action movie for the second half.

Accepting that, I think this should be fun.

As for how true any of it is (like any other movie its amped up whatever science its based on), I found a really nifty primer right here:

If you're into this stuff, I recommend it as a good quick read.

Actually he did a good job with this one.

There is a couple corny scenes but the movie by itself is quite good and some of the good/best parts are not in the trailer for once :D
On average its a great balance between Action/FX/Humour (there's actually some scenes that made the whole theatre lol... I'll let you see by yourself).

I enjoyed it a lot and its definitely worth the few $$ to watch it on a big screen with kick ass sound.

Its definitely the best disaster movie since... The Posseidon Adventure? Inferno Tower?... well, the best in a long time.

Still reading? What are you doing? just run to the theater you fool!

See you this week end to discuss the 3 unnecessary scenes

In the tradition of Neo-Geo.com ignorant anger: This movie will suck. But really, I have zero interest in these natural disaster films. While it may end up being good for what it is, I just don't care.

It's Like anal porn: If you're not into it, then as great as "Super anal ailen rim-jobbers " is , you probobly won't dig it.

I know it's a disaster movie but what causes it?
global warming? and it's a sudden disaster?
I would think something like that would be gradual but that's my uninformed opinion I guess.

yeah one of the tv stations interviewed one of their weatherpersons, john coleman. he's the one who founded the weather channel. okay, he said it's just imagination, fun, and in it will not occur in our lifetime. it's basically a hollywood thing in which they just take a concept and just blow it up.

Are we brothers?

All kidding aside, after seeing the trailer, this is yet another ID4, Armageddon popcorn flick with so much mind-numbing action, that it will just bore me to deth.

If I can analogize popular space theory movies, :

Armageddon was ok. The movie just was too fast, and was a clusterfuck of scientfic inaccuracies, arcade-like shit, and scores a 10/10 on the "WTF that would never happen in real life" meter.

Deep Impact was better. A little bit better acting, more scientifically accurate. Story gripped me way more than above.

So far this year really is teh suck with movies, IMO. I know I won't care dick about Spiderman 2, and I really hope Chronicles of Riddick doesn't disappoint me either, being a fan of Pitch Black. If it turns out like Matrix, i'll be pissed.

I need plot, story, and factuality.

just got back from watching it in theaters. it was an okay film, the story was too predictable but the CGI effects were still there. some humor was funny. for example when the refugees were trying to get into mexico, a reporter coined it up nicely.

"american citizens are now entering mexico illegally!"

my only gripe was some stupid fat lady talking to her husband here and there through out the movie and it got really irritating that it made me want to dump some soda on her for not shutting up. :very_ang:

i give it a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

I was watching the trailer, and someone closes this steel door on some dogs chasing him. I wanna see what that's all about.

Good movie. Special effects are good.
Maybe it's from the director who did ID4 & Godzilla, it just looks very similar to his previous titles

Overall= B-
Unintentional Hilarity= A+

The special effects were really good but the movie was just way too un realistic for me to take it seriously.

I love how Dennis Quaid can walk outside without gloves, hats and scarfs in -150C and live.

The taxpayer line was funny and the line about americans not being illegal because we decided to forgo all latin american debts lol

Have you been hiding under a rock? ;)

That's all the trailer have ever said. "From the Director of ID4"

Assumed you actually had no idea, looks like your degree in film did work :D

This genre seems pretty worn out to me - I just can't seem to get excited about it.

Well, I know Weathermen are going nuts over it - the three that work
at our Station (ABC/UPN) couldn't stop talking about seeing it as soon
as it came out.

You should have seen them when they were watching the home videoes
from the midwest tornados a few weeks ago - I've never seen anybody
that fucking happy before.

Seriously, it was like "OMFG THAT'S AWESOME! LOOK AT THE WIND
VORTEX CURVING LEFT SO RARE AWESOME AND THE EYE IS A CLASS
TYPE 3!"

All I saw was a tornado.

Crazy ass weather people.

I was listening to NPR and it seems that Greenpeace is backing the movie hardcore to promote their ideas (and probablly to get more funding, heh). Whats sad is that a senator was on, i forget his name, but he admitted he knew nothing about global warming but wanted to watch the movie to find out more. WTF?! I dont watch Jurassic Park in order to learn about dinos....

Ya, the whole political sub story was a joke... "Well Mr. Vice President - if you would have signed in the Kyoto Treaty, none of this would be happening!"

Haha seriously, the people who actually think they can make a political statement with a movie like this I think is funnier than anything.

But there was a lot of good incidental humor in it - I won't spoil the fun for anyone here. And there was a lot of older people in front of us so I kind of felt bad laughing at some of it. :tickled:
