I always felt that the Beatles were over rated, simply a boy band of their time, especially early stuff. There are a few good ones here and there, but I'd much rather listen to later stuff or more preferably Lennon and Harrison's solo work.

PS Wings>Beatles too ;)

Really though I do enjoy the music I just don't think its as special as some people think it is, its entertaining sure, but that's just pop music. Most of their songs don't 'mean' anything.

These are my faves.

Day Tripper
Revolution
Here Comes The Sun
Julia
We Can Work It Out
Any Time At All
Real Love

Man, there's just so many great songs by The Beatles. There really isn't a single one I don't like.

What? While I agree about the very early songs being the least favorites, I love hard day's night.

Favorite song? Jesus, that's tough. I love the following:

Pretty much the entire Sgt Pepper album
Day Tripper

Hmm, can't think of the names... but so many good ones. Sorry.

All their songs suck.. they were a "boy band" who then took a lot of drugs, thought they were prolific and then they took a huge shit all over the musical landscape.

Contrived garbage.

Stones Rule.

How exactly does calling them a "Boy Band" mean anything? They played their instruments and they wrote their music and they didn't dance around in choreographed dance routines. And just because a person doesn't like them doesn't mean they weren't important. How do you explain that so many musicians say they were influenced by The Beatles? You know what the worst thing is is when people hate something just because they want to be different. (and I'm not even a big Beatles fan myself)

I don't know what my favorite song is. I guess I don't have one. I think a lot of their songs are okay to listen to. I know I don't like "Love me doo" at all though. Ick.

What's wrong with DISLIKING the beatles? Why am I always assailed when I say this?

Fact: The beatles started as a "boy band".

I find them incredibly contrived. Plain and simple.. they traded one fad for another.

As a musician, I don't find any of their music noteworthy. Nothing terribly groundbreaking or technically complicated.... or interesting. I won't say some of their songs aren't "listenable" I just find their music and image... stupid.

The Beatles weren't all that.. it's a symptom of our generation and the hippie generation trying to paint everything in the 60's as utopia and that they were the "great generation of change and thought". Frankly... it sucked... and more bad came out of it that good... like the beatles.

My personal favorite is Black Bird. It's so simple, nice finger picking, mellow vocals.

Oh great, another guy who thinks that just because he has an opinion means he can properly say anything. It's ok to not like the Beatles. Like I said, I am not a Beatles fan either. But in the first place, using the term "boy band" to refer to them is ridiculous as I've already stated. That term comes from the 90s and the criteria by which you'd meet the status of being a "boy band" cannot possibly apply to the Beatles. Boy bands sig a contract where they have no freedom to write their own music and their concerts involve them going through dance routines and singing. That's what a boy band was supposed to be. You can't just toss that term onto any group who you don't like. Why do you have to demean the Beatles just because you don't like them? It's the classic sign of a guy who is just saying something to be different. You make up whatever sounds good. People don't love the Beatles because they are from the 60s, man. Name other bands which get the same treatment. There really aren't any. You're trying to say that people just have these loving memories of the 60s and that everyone else is brainwashed too? And so how do you explain that the Beatles sell really well still and other bands ehhh so-so, average sales. Do you honestly think that the Beatles at their prime don't have a distinct sound? Even today it sounds unlike anything else *I've* heard, and I'm a music fanatic. What else sounds like the Beatles, patirculary before them?

Look, it's cool to not like the Beatles. Whatever. But you're saying things that are just off-base and ignorant. Demeaning the Beatles and millions of fans. Saying people are just talked into believing that it's good music like mindless drones. It's insulting to everyone who likes their music and you're insulting a lot of my buddies who think it's good music. All for what? Cause you don't like the music?

I wouldn't say that they were a boy band in the modern sense of the title, but they were definitely a pop group. Regardless, one cannot take away what they contributed in terms of song structure, production and creativity.
Hell, read up on what the Stones themselves thought about the Beatles for some amazing insight.

On the topic, I really like pretty much all of their songs, but I really like:
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, In My Life, Yesterday, Norwegian Wood, For No One, Let It Be, Something and Back in the U.S.S.R.

Paperback Writer
Elinor Rigby
Taxman (though the Jam's Start is better, so is Le Cactus)
I am the Walrus

I can only hack the subversive material, the pop stuff, while granted great examples in their day grate on me a LOT these days.

The boy band thing will stick forever, Epstine promoting image first is certainly relevant. Identikit constumes and mild stage routine is certainly evident of boy band criteria.

Exactly what I mean.

They were a fad and as that fad was passing.. they found another one to latch on to. My opinion, but I think it holds water.

I hate contrived artists. The Beatles to me... along with their image and music, all seem incredibly contrived.

I'm not just trying to be different.. it's the way I feel. No trolling. I think the beatles suck and I don't like them.

VanillaThunder, nothing wrong with disliking something if you have your reasons behind it.
I actually didn't like the Rolling Stones until I watched them at the so-called SARSstock. Since then, I've really gotten into their old stuff.
Their new stuff is dirt, though, imho.

I've heard all their stuff, but the only song I think of off hand that I like a lot is Mean Mr. Mustard.

Geroge Harrison's solo stuff kicks ass.
