In my opinion, I think Bushido Blade was the best fighting game, especially for it's time. Think about it...the free roaming on the different levels, "real" life damage, "real" time blocking techniques, NO projectiles, NO juggling, slightly interactive atmoshpere. This game forced you to attain SOME kind of skill, as opposed to learning to juggle your opponent all round long (even though it is fun to do I'll admit). That game was the most realistic fighter ever. Damn shame they never really improved and continued with it.

You know, I could flame you now for posting that Bushido Blade BS in a Neo-related Gameplay forum, but I won't. :glee:

Seriously tho, let me add two points:

1 - Bushido Blade may be nice but it sure as hell is not the best fighting game ever, and not because it's 3D or anything. Don't ask me what the best one is, I don't know, at least not objectively. IMO, it's either one of FFS, Aof3, VF4 or SF3s.

2 - Projectiles, juggling and other 2D standards don't need skills? Heh, I could show you some combos and setups in various fighting games (including 3D ones) that are so damn difficult they'd drive you insane while practising them...

Oh and btw., IMO real-life sims of all sorts suck like hell. If I want reality, I open the door of my house and step outside.

I still say Bushido Blade requires skill from all players, 'cause I been through just about all types of fighting games, and learned all types of linking techniques. Yes it is fun, but when you play the game enough to know you can "PIMP" and exploit it for either the A: Dominant characters; B: Holes in gameplay and animation; C: Juggles and links; D: Just plain cheesin', ya get no challenge after a while until someone REALLY brings it to you. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all types of fighting games to death, but you get to a point or level when you realize the BS from real shit, and not being blinded by combos and colors.

Of course I'll admit Bushido Blade didn't have the ooh's and aah's like plenty of other games, but there are times that I hate knowing that people will always be out there winning with cheesy shit.

Basically, this is another take on the "arcade vs. home consoles" discussion because Bushido Blade as a pure console game came up with all those RPG-ish/real-life elements that were next-to-impossible to implement in an arcade game, simply because the players would spend too much time with the game on one coin to make it interesting for arcade owners.

Bushido Blade is more like Samurai Spirits RPG, some sort of quest game with an emphasis on weapon battles, a genre-mix like Gan Gan. I wouldn't say it needs no skills, it needs different ones than other 2/3D fighters, but hey, basically it's all about quick (re)action and accurate hand-to-eye coordination... nothing really revolutionary here IMO...

I'm more into the arcade type of fighter with 2P\team battle action I guess.

Weird thread. What's cheesy about skill? I liked Bushido Blade (I like part 1 more than 2), but I don't see it as taking as much skill, much less more skill than many 2D fighters. Wait for an opening, counter a hit, strike...one well timed attack doing massive damage. Sounds a bit like Samurai Shodown 3.

Anyway, I vote for Fatal Fury Special, like I always do when asked this question. It takes skill, and there's nothing cheesy in it. Runners up are RB2, RBFF, FF3 for me.
