Im considering becoming, what, about the 6th person to buy an xbox in Japan..
But, im wondering whether i should get an imported US console, or go with the JPN version.

The only reason im getting it is for the SNK games coming to Live (SvC, KOF, maybe SS:V) plus the Street fighter collection, Guilty gear XX Reload, things like that, so no modding (i have a modded xbox in storage in the US anyways).

The games mostly seem to come out sooner for the US (sometimes much sooner, crimson skies just got released here, been out in the US for over 6 months).

I assume that if i get the US box, i will have to get a US live kit, and connect to US Live servers. any problem with that?
what do you guys think?

Cheers!

there are no "us servers" really since all the games are user hosted. i don't see why you couldn't use a US live kit in japan, i knew people in europe who bought US live kits and used them there on a US xbox.

definetly get a US xbox, unless you like the really few pure japanese titles that don't come here or want the fighting games early. none of the good FPS/Action shit gets to Japan if at all.

Ah, didnt know live games were user hosted.

But I am mostly looking forward to the fighting games. How much of a delay is there for the US releases? Metalslug 3 i think was actually US first.

Anyways, ill probably pick up a US box, unless the price difference is huge, or unless someone else has a reason to do otherwise.

and no, i dont need the blue kasumi edition. :p

Yeah, its pretty easy really. But i dont have much in the way of tools here. All my good shit is in storage back in the US. All i have is a cheap-ass soldering iron now, which i dont entirely trust (its good enough for rewiring buttons on my supergun sticks, but not so much for delicate work.)

I'll let you know if i decide to do anything serious.

the no solder mod chips are supposed to be pretty easy, but i think thats rather ghetto.

Sorry but I don't have anything to add to your question but...
That symbol your using for your avatar looks awfully familliar.
Is't that from Doctor Who? Like the time lord symbol or something.

solder me in a nice chip (executer is best from memory) and ill pay you handsomely for it. id pay 30,000 for a japanese one which you should be able to pick up for 10,000 or so (thompson drive of course :) ) that leaves 20,000 for chip and your effort..... :)

Buy an XBOX and be the "Diffrent" dude in the Nippon who ownz one, since I guess it's unhip to own an American made product in the land of the rising sun indeed.

Well, I went and splurged on a green halo edition US xbox today.. looks kind of cool.. well, for an xbox anyways..

now i need to find a live kit.. or maybe one of the games that includes a few months free. i could probably do without the headset.

What arcade stick do you guys recommend for the 'box?

Beezlebubble: you'll be the first to know if i decide to start modding boxes, but it'll have to be a no for the immediate future.

Yes, its the Seal of Rassilon, considered to be the first Timelord (he harnessed the Eye of Harmony to provide energy for his time experiments.)

Shit man, you should have spoken up earlier!
But nah.. I got lots of love for the shmups, but i'll get them on the other consoles.
I may have to wait a bit longer for some of the fighters (hopefully the US releases wont be too much later than jpn), but everything else is available much sooner. (halo 2 in particular..) I think it'll work out better this way.

that's bullshit. the US live library kills japans, and the "few good japanese games" are already out in the USA, like Otogi and Murakumo, shikigami is the only exception and that's already on like every other system (DC included).

Somehow I didn't see this thread, but almost all of the really excellent games on the Box are available for the Japanese region. In fact, I'd argue that some of these are significantly improved for not going through the hacksaw of localization:

Jet Set Radio Future
Shikigami no Shiro Evolution
Ninja Gaiden
Otogi
Otogi: Hyakki toubatsu emaki
Shin Megami Tensei 9
Fatal Frame: Special Edition
Guilty Gear XX Reload

Add this to the amazing software available in both regions like:

Halo
PGR 2
Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
Panzer Dragoon Orta

Granted there are a couple of great games that haven't made it to Japan, like:

Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition
Star Wars KOTOR

But to be honest, I would have gone with a Japanese Box, but a modchip will let you have the best of both worlds...

While on the subject of the Japanese XBox, has anyone ever seen a Japanese region copy of Shenmue 2 on the Box? Does it even exist? I looked in tons of stores for this last Christmas when I was near Sapporo, with no results, and I've never seen it for sale. It's a mystery!

Really? Well that clears it up for me - no wonder I've never been able to find it. I'll be content with the DC version then!
