Comic books meaning both American AND Japanese Manga... or just American stuff? ---Personally I don't collect much, but when I do it's mostly Graphic novels of Japanese Manga mostly. Though I still collect {Missing only a few issues} The Savage Sword of Conan comics. My latest endeavors in comic collecting has been in tracking down the 1-6 mini series of Mamoru Oshii's Hellhounds Panzer Cops

manga02.jpg

...and I only need issue #3 to complete my collection. Then I'll start having to track down the "Mooks" and Roman Albums for JIN-ROH even though that's only slightly connected to his earlier Kerberos {Hellhounds} Panzer Cops stuff... but with the un-related PS2 game KILL ZONE coming out soon with Kerberos like soldiers, I'll be on Tech Armor Heaven Cloud Nine. ---Other stuff I collect or have collected is the Sanctuary series... Hokuto No Ken... Strain... Crying Freeman and a few others.

I have over 5,000 comics in my collection, mostly from the 70's and 80's...all DC Comics and a few dating back to the 50's and worth big bucks. Not much into collecting what passes for comics today save for JSA and a few manga novels ;)

My original sig and hobbies show I'm a comic fan/collector.
Have a few thousand myself from the odd 70s stuff to loads of 80s, 90s and 2000s.
Got quite a few complete runs, but I'm a fan of creators more than characters.

I like a bunch of mainstream stuff - the current Rucka & Azzarello Supes arcs, the Ultimate universe, for example but I really dig Vertigo, IDW and some indie presses.

Um, the Archie Sonic series? I know it's not that great, but it's all I've ever really read, and not much of it...

As for manga, Love Hina was pretty cool, even though I've only read the first one so far. Magic Knight Rayearth is one that I've read through completely (only the first story), but it definitely wasn't what it could have been... the awesome art style saves that one though, otherwise you're better off with the anime.

Those are all that I've really read through.

I like manga.
I like Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure. The artist just released a new series for Jo jo called "Steel Ball Run", it's set in the 1890s and follows a race across America from San Diego to New York. It's REALLY good so far, only 2 books have been released, but I highly recomend it to Jo Jo fans.

I have several thousand from when I was an abnormal kid. They're all packed away in plastic, etc.

After a couple decade pause I'm buying TP's and hardcovers. I can't stomach the ad's and such in the monthly books but I really enjoy reading the compilations.

I mostly like mainstream stuff - X-Men / Spiderman. I will occasionally go for some JLA Green Lantern / Green Arrow.

The favorite thing I have was a complete collection of Micronauts if anyone remembers that. Haven't looked at it in 20 years or so, but it was cool then...

If any mainstream readers want to try some cool stuff, check out:

Superman: Secret Identity
Superman: Red Son
Startling Stories: Banner
Batman: Ego
Daredevil Visionaries: Kevin Smith
Green Arrow: Quiver
Anything Daredevil by Brian Michael Bendis
Bruce Jones' run on Incredible Hulk

There is also a Darwyn Cooke maxiseries dedicated to an Elseworlds retelling of the DC Universe called New Frontier. One of DC's best books on the market right now.

If you want to try something different, check out:
30 Days of Night
Dark Days
Sandman
Powers
Rising Stars
Sleeper
100 Bullets
Gotham Central

These are just some starters. There are thousands of good stories out there so buy for quality, not for nostalgia!

I grew up a DC comics kid whereas alot of my friends and neighbors were more into Marvel comics. I got into Marvel more in my late teens but always enjoyed reading stories with guys like Superman and Batman more. The whole clone nonsense all but killed my urge to pick up a Spider-man book, which is a damn shame because he's a solid number 3 on my favorite hero depth chart behind Supes and Bats (FWIW rounding out my top 5 would be Flash/Green Lantern tied for 4th and Captain Marvel aka Shazam! at numba 5).

I don't buy nearly the number of comics that I did as a kid/teenager mostly because of the high cover prices they slap on them these days. One book that I've been regularly buying is Superman/Batman and that's $3 an issue. I remember when I first started buying comics, $3 got me 3-4 comics and a soda at my local grocery carry-out.

Anywho...of the stuff that's out now that I currently keep up with...

Superman/Batman
Justice Society of America
Company crossovers like JLA/Avengers
Various Elseworlds (there's a sequel to Justice League: The Nail that I need to pick up)

As far as trade paperbacks go, I generally don't like picking them up mainly because unlike normal comics, they're more of a pain to store away, being oversized and all. I did just recently pick up the TPB for the Crisis on Infinite Earths Maxi-series though and I'm gonna break down here soon and pick up the JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice TPB as well.

I was heavily into comics back in my early to mid teens (circa '91-'94) but since then I've lost interest. At the moment I only have about 1/4 of my collection left.
I was into everything, Image, DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Fleetway/Quality, Rebel, Northstart, etc.

Some of my favorite books were:
Batman (Batman, Detective Comics, Shadows of the Dark Knight, etc.)
The Punisher
The Savage Dragon
Deadpool
Spawn
The Maxx
Judge Dredd
Super Patriot
Fist of the North Star
Faust (One of the best comics ever, totally underrated)
The Crow
TMNT (the original B/W issues)
X-Men (or any book with Wolvie)
Dinosaurs for Hire

At this point I'm ashamed to admit it, but for a while there I was a total Youngblood/Leifield fanboy. What the hell was I thinking?

That's funny. I feel the same way about the regular issues. With the HC and TP's I can store them with my rugular books on a shelf. With the monthly issues I feel like I'd need to do something special to keep them nice. ...so I don't buy them.

Got about 2k+ in 18 short boxes from a decade ago. Still hit the comic store every month of weeks for a small assortment... that and my issue of Toyfare. Its just not the same w/o a Monthly dose of Twisted Mego Theatre.

Hey, it's okay. I forgive you. :D
Besides, digging James O'Barr's classic The Crow more than makes up for it.

Anyone who loves the movie, hates the movie, has seen the movie, has heard of the movie or has seen a crow before should pick up this book.
For anyone in the Detroit area, O'Barr often appears at the Motor City Comiccon as it's his hometown.

I suppose i'ma closet comic fan. I dont own a lot, though i do read my friends graphics novels. I mostly enjoy Batman and Superman but i've been reading some of new Marvel Ultimates stuff.

Best comic of all time:Superman: Peace on Earth. If you don't own it, then get it. Its simply beautiful (story and art).

I've been buying up hardcover graphic novels as of late and the purchase I'm most happy about was the Kingdom Come hardcover. This is a great story with amazing art by Alex Ross. I also picked up Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Batman TPBs and Long Halloween was great and I'll start Dark Victory soon. Those two can do no wrong with Batman or in the Marvel "Spectrum" series. The Ultimate Marvel Team-Up hardcover was decent too.

Good pickup on Kingdom Come, man. Really good pickup! :buttrock:

I know I'm probably the only person who thinks this way but I do not like Jeph Loeb's writing at all. As a scripter myself, it's his pacing and plotting that really drag him down. Good dialogue writer, though.
I've wasted money on The Long Halloween (it's average,) Daredevil Yellow, Spider-Man Blue and half of the Hush story arc.
I'll be selling them as soon as I move.
