GamesIndustry.biz reported today that British technology company Imagination is set to deliver a new arcade board to SEGA, contributing to the Japanese publisher's next-generation arcade technology.
Imagination is no stranger to SEGA arcade cabinets: the company previously provided technology for the Dreamcast- and Naomi-based cabinets.
News of the new arcade technology came in SEGA's recent financial statements, and emphasizes the company's new focus on its profitable arcade business. SEGA's recent acquisition by arcade behemoth Sammy will only emphasize that business focus.
Along with the technology provided by Imagination, it is likely that SEGA will work on Sammy's Atomiswave arcade platform, which is similar to the Naomi board and features more-humble but cost-effective technology, in future development.
Most recently, SEGA has worked with Microsoft's Chihiro board, based on Xbox architecture.
