what's the funniest film ever? and for that matter, who is the funniest actor ever?

I can't answer such a massive question without checking my memory, but I laughed so much with Friday, and Something About Mary, The Big Lebowski etc.

Funniest actors? John Candy, Ben Stiller etc. you guys do the hard work my brain is broken.

I agree with alot of what you say, and Bill Murray is a genius (who should have won that Oscar).

O' Brother Where Art Thou is so much more than a comedy - don't you just love films that you can watch over and over and they hardly loose that thing that makes them watchable?

White Men Can't Jump, and that one about the one armed bowler (can't remember what its called but fuck me is it a funny film).

Jack Black is brilliant comedian.

Yeah. Murray fucking made that movie. It was the performance of his career!

I really liked "Happy Gilmore" and "Billy Madison". "Being John Malkovich" also gets me cracking up. "Space Balls" is a great parody movie.. And that scene in "Old School" where he shoots himself in the neck gets me laughing really hard even though the rest of it is so-so. When I was a kid, I thought Naked Gun 33 1/3 was hilarious, too.

Best actor? Bill Murray sounds like a good choice... I really like Will Ferrel's ability to turn the lamest shit on paper into gold, though. I want to see him in more movies.

In no particular order:
Life of Brian
Quest for the Holy Grail
Dumb & Dumber
Spaceballs
Ghostbusters
Groundhog Day

Funniest actor? Hmm, that's much tougher as there are so many kinds of funny.
Excluding the Brits (Peter Sellers, the Pythons, etc.) I'd have to say Bill Murray or Jack Black.

I'm probably forgetting so many good flicks or actors so forgive me.

Roy and Ismael:
I: "God blessed my brother to be a good carpenter. It's okay."
R: "Yeah, well he blessed you, too, and I'll give you a hint what it is. It's round, has three holes, and you put your fingers into it."
I: "You leave Rebecca out of this."

It's a great quotable movie. Most of the Farrelly movies are (Something about Mary and the amazing Dumb & Dumber.)

blazing saddles is fucking funny.

"hey, where the white women at!?"

as for actors im a big jack black fan. bill murray is cool though i thought lost in translation was overhyped to the extreme (i mean wtf caddy shack and his performance in that eats it the fuck alive). i also like will ferrel that guy can make anything funny and jim carrey can be funny too. choosing favorite funny man or funny movie is impossible.
