If you are thinking about purchasing a TG-16...I'd suggest that you go ahead and get a Turbo Duo. Games like Dracula X, Super Air Zonk, and Y's Book are only on CD. A Duo will cost $150...and up depending on condition, whether or not it has been modified, as well as if it is Jap or US system.

Suggested games:
Gates Of Thunder
Lords Of Thunder
Blazing Lazers
R-Type
Cotton
It Came From The Desert
Loom
Order Of The Griffon
Prince Of Persia
Shape Shifter
Valis III
Y's Book I & II
Y's Book III

1.shooters and it has some of the best rpg's
2.It varies I'd say go for the us turbo duo because the cd is region free and you can get a converter to play the jp hucard games(you can't play us hucard on jp system)
3.Dracula X(reason I bought the system great collectors item it goes for 100+ Valis series (action rpg) Y's book series(rpg) Air Zonk(shooter) Lords of thunder(shooter) gate of thunder(I suggest you get the 3-1 cd it comes with 2 bonk games) splatterhouse(I heard the jp version is bloodier) magical chase(good luck getting this I saw it go for 170+ on ebay the other day really rare game and supposed to be the best shooter on it)

4.Ebay and this board

Good luck getting one I just got one a few months back and it's really a great system :buttrock:

most of the us hu cards are shit, but there are a few worth playing, and adaptors are just crap.

ofcourse i bought a us duo and a jpn pce/cdrom :buttrock: suitcase4lyfe

and i think i hate money, because i want a duo-rx :emb:

There used to be the "Turbo Turnpike" webring, Im not sure if that's still around.

Oh yeah, does anyone have screens of "The Dynastic Hero?" I've seen the cover in my old magazine from the mid 1990's but never knew what the game looks like.

I think the Turbo excels mostly in the shooter genre. Blazing Lazers, Lords of Thunder, R-Type and others are among the best the genre has ever seen. Second to that, I would say action platform games and RPGs. Most of the RPGs are found on the CD system, but many of them are excellent, and even the Neutopias and a few other RPGish hucards are great games.

A Turbografx alone is maybe $40 with hookups. Getting one with the CD attachment and a system 3.0 card (to play Duo super CD titles) will be about $150 altogether. A duo system loose is maybe $150, with a complete boxed one around $300.

Here is a quick list of really amazing Turbo games. (talking US releases only, there are a billion great PCEngine games).
1. Bonk 1 and 2
2. Blazing Lazers
3. Magical Chase
4. R-Type
5. The Legendary Axe
6. Alien Crush / Devil's Crush
7. Neutopia I and II
8. Ys book 1 and 2
9. Cadash

Collectible Games? Believe me when I say - finding some of the rarest US released Turbografx/Duo games makes finding rare Neo home carts look easy. Here's a quick top five and what you might expect to pay.

1. Magical Chase US hucard ($200 - $400, depending on completeness)
2. Dynastic Hero US Super CD ($250-$400 crazy rare)
3. Bonk 3 US Hucard and Super CD ($50-$100 for hucard, $125ish for CD)
4. Super Air Zonk US Super CD
5. Syd Mead's Terraforming Super CD

Some of the moderately rare but highly popular hucards include Soldier Blade, Splatterhouse, Devil's Crush, etc.

A lot of the more common stuff can be bought in bulk for dirt cheap if you are patient and look hard enough, but the rare stuff is just expensive and very hard to find. If you want rare stuff I recommend tracking down some well known collectors directly, as the market on ebay is somewhat limited and monopolized by a few annoying sellers/buyers.

Aside from the Neo the turbo is definitely among my favorite systems and I have been really into collecting and playing it for many years.

Are you sure this game is rare? This is one of very first titles came out with Duo.

I think Dungeon Explorer II US Super CD is rare as you have to special order this title in end of Duo era. That's how I got this title..............

Dungeon Explorer 2 is a pretty tough game to find, but it is available if you look. Dynastic Hero is not - and it was one of the LAST games released for the system (in fact, it has the highest serial/part number of all Duo games). I'm not sure how it was distributed, but you will find 50 Dungeon Explorer 2s before you find 1 Dynastic Hero. That's no exaggeration...

Not even close to an exaggeration..... Dynastic Hero is easily the rarest of the Turbo games. The only one even close is Magical Chase, and that is rarest in complete (boxed) form. Hey John, who loves ya bud......

abdul!!! Selling off that AES and going TG16?? Much cheaper decision my man!

As far as good places to read up on Turbo stuff, pcenginefx.com is one of the better sites, but the holy grail is still The Turbo List, which is also the home of the PCECP, (PC Engine Catalog Project) which is a searchable index of all US and Jp games! Sign up for the mailing list too.

As far as where to get stuff, eBay is actually probably the cheapest place. Most retailers will screw you on Turbo gear. And for a simple US Turbo Grafx 16 deck, no more than $40 SHIPPED. And it's a good option because you can easily add a CD attachment later. I would recommend getting the TG16 deck modded though as then you will be able to play JP import games and use the cheaper System 3.0 card later when you want to play Super CDRoms.

I do know of one member looking to do a HUGE Turbo sale in the very near future ;) (John and Tony, I'll be finally getting back to you on that stuff really soon......)

Ooppss......I mixed up Dynasty Hero and Dragon Slayer together and made a mistake.

Dynasty Hero was released in 1993 and DS was in 1991.

I'll try to dig out more info on Dynasty Hero...........

It's tough to find info on this title, as I've spent a lot of time researching it myself. In fact, I actually went to a couple sites that actually said this game never came out in the US! Finding ENGLISH screenshots is really tough too. I think www.pcecp.com has a cover scan and a couple shots.

It's basically a CD version of Wonder Boy in Monster World on Mega Drive / Genesis. The graphics are great, the music is some of the best of any game I've ever played it's got a great quest. Definitely one of my personal favorite turbo games... one of those few rare games that are actually fantastic games.

PS - Dean... yes, "you da man"... and looking forward to hearing from you bout the list :)

You can find a gamers condition Duo for around $125 to 150. A brand-new system will bring $350..maybe a little more. The Turbo Duo is one of the rarest systems. I'm not sure if it is more rare than the Neo AES or not...anyone know?

I don't think you'll see any Turbo Duo's for less than $175. I keep an eye open for them. If I can get them for $150, I pick them up because then I can mod them and resell for a very good price. If anyone is looking to sell a fully working Duo for $125-150, PM me!

A nice, boxed Duo, like mint, gets $250-275 these days. I have only seen one sealed Duo sell, other than mine and both went over $400.

A boxed, really nice Duo-RX, providing it's in the US, tops $300 easily. From Japan, well, after the $70-80 shipping.....

The Duo is certainly not decreasing in value. Systems prices will continue to go up!

@D-Lite I was speaking of an unboxed gamers condition Duo...one that is not close to being mint or even near mint.

So was I. You won't even find gamer condition that cheap these days except for the occasional steal on the forums....

Dynastic Hero is only good for collectors, it is a good game, probably joint 3rd best Wonderboy game, general gamers are better off with the Megadrive or even Mastersystem version.

Same for Magical Chase, the game is expensive but pretty crap considering the wealth of A+ shooters on the system.

For great cheap results, Valis IV, Download, Street Fighter II, Final Soldier & Shubibin Man 2/Shockman offer greatness.

I used to have lots PCEngine games and systems but sold most of them years ago. Fortunately I still keep my US/JPN Duos & Supergrafx.

It's funny that brand new Turbo Duo used to sell for $199-$299 three years ago and now it's nowhere to be found in that price.

PCengine has over 1000 titles but IMO only 10% of games are worth to own.

I think I have most games I want except two:

- Sapphire
- Sylphia

:)

That's the fallout of TZD selling out all their stock. Only place left with new Duo's is Telegames.

Amen to that. Of course, there are some true classics in that 10%.

Looks like Telegames is also out of new systems.....%#@$. I almost ordered a new Duo from TZD...they ran out of systems shortly before I placed my order.:(
