Which is THE Best background in KOF (Any game from 1994 to 2003) & why???

I like the bonus points....

I like alot of 96's stages, with the intros. especially chizura's that turns into geonitz's.
I like kyo's too where there's the talking guy yammering on blah blah blah to the right.
blah blah blah to the left.
kind of a cop out to have the same stage for athena with other sprites hanging around.
but overall 96 is my favorite for backgrounds.
o, and forget not about the garou team's stage.
I love the music to go with it too.
I could go on and on about all the backgrounds...

It's too hard to pick just one, so I'll narrow it down to one or two per game.

KOF94 - Ikari Warriors Team stage
KOF95 - Hero Team or AOF Team stage
KOF96 - Iori Team stage
KOF97 - Monaco
KOF98 - China or Japan
KOF99 - The rain stage or airport
KOF00 - The factory stage
KOF01 - Korea
KOF02 - Holland or the stage w/ lightning and the electrical wires that spark
KOF03 - The rooftop stage or Aztec stage

96 had the best backgrounds in my opinion (Not played 2003) particularly Athena's stage and the one where it's set a court yard, Korea I think, looks very good as are the opening animations. I thought the stages got progressively worse after this.

Runner up. :) This plus K' Hero Team music is great. :)

It's hard to chose... KOF has some of the best and well thought out bgs.

'95--Kim Team and Iori Team(South Station perhaps)


'96--Hero Team, FF Team, Iori Team, and Boss Team

'97--Monaco and China

'98--USA Street, USA Train, China, and Japan Temple

'99--Rain Stage, Amusement Park(esp on DC), and Sewer.

2k2--Japan and Korea

Women's Team '95. The backgrounds after '97 are pretty bad (especially '98).

kof 94 pao pao cafe, kyo's stage with the policeman in the background.. awesome
AOF3 .. quixotic temple.. omg .. nice, actually. aof3 rocks in the bg department
kof2k - bulldozer stage, I don't know why, I love this stage and how it gets destroyed, good art on the bulldozer too.

I like the Japan Team Stage for KOF 94. I just like it because I like the bgm of it, and the little riot guard behind the characters. He has to try harder to stop the fighting than just standing there.

My favorite among all backgrounds has to be the stadium stage in KOF '96 around the time Goenitz appears. I also loved the China stage and PaoPao Cafe in KOF '94, NeoGeo Land in '95, Osaka in '96, Balli in '97, Japan stage and China in '98, the aquarium stage in 2000, and the Mexico and China stages in KOF 2002. They are all so different and all so distinct. I thought KOF 2001 had some of the most aweful background stages as they seemed so plain.

I only own 96', so I can only give a very limited opinion, But even at that, I'm sure my vote goes to a stage most don't like, or don't think sticks out.

Ryuuko no Ken's stage - I love that old western vibe to that stage. The red sky gives it a post nuclear war look also. The music fits the scenery to a perfect tee. And the red 356 porsche speedster just tops it all off.

I don't get why so many people love the rain stage from 99. It's pretty good, but the music sucks.

I would say that the following are some of the best BGs around.

Train Stage 2k3
middle age team 98
Iori stage 98
end level stadium 96
waterfall stage 95
factory stage 2000

Favorite ever? That train stage from 98 with Iori's music is just so badass. But, I have to give it up... for the other train stage from 2k3. Heh, and I hate trains, too. ;)
