Here's the gist.

Briggs travels a lot for work. I travel a lot for work. I know MarryMeMai travels for work and Rev. Quixo has traveled, at least once, for work.

There are basically no bullshit free ways of aquainting yourself with the game atmosphere of a city you're visiting. Trust me, I've tried.

You can come on a forum, but usually the results aren't that timely (usually) to when you have to leave. Sometimes you don't get any results (witness my recent trip to San Diego).

What I thought of is this:

Help yourself by helping others.

So I started, what I hope will one day be, a relatively complete listing of all game related locals in my home town of Pittsburgh.

Right now...it's sparse, but that's okay because...so is the 'scene'!

At any rate there's more than enough here to get a visitor to the town started. To give him realistic descriptions of what he can hope to find and where he can hope to find them.

It took me about 4 hours (max) to make the site. It's neither fancy nor pretty. It's functional, which is all I care about.

http://www.euthanized.org/blaine/gamespgh/ (I'll get a domain name eventually).

What I'd REALLY like to see is other people do the same thing I did. Maybe even pull your resources if you know other guys around you. Everyone just write a quick review about a location.

Soon I'll add a map (with links back to the entry) so people have a better understanding of where everything else. Because the second most difficult thing (the first being having no idea what's out there) is knowing where the hell everything is.

I've got a nice little list of New York locations I'm to hit but I don't doubt there's 10 times that.

So at the end of the day...how useful is The Hitchiker's Game Guide To Pittsburgh? Not very, BUT, you'd probably love if should you ever have to come to town (business, etc).

What do you guys think? Anyone feel up to the challenge? Doesn't matter how big or small your town is, just be honest and thorough.

Quite honestly, this is a kick-ass idea.

For a long time, I've gone to different places and there simply is never enough time to really scope out where the good stores, remaining arcades are, etc. If you need any data on Tucson (HA!), I've got it for you.

Hell, I'd be all for that.

Like I said, it really doesn't matter how big a city you live in.

Actually, in many ways I'd rather have a guide to Tuscon handy than a guide to New York. In NY I can just head to Chinatown to make do. But I don't even know where to start in Arizona.

I'll even volunteer Briggs to write up one for Atlanta.

I can probably start doing some research for the Trenton / Princeton Area of New Jersey...although it is definitely slim pickings.

Deffo, Edinburgh is an easy place to write such a guide for, in fact I did one for a magazine a while ago. I'm moving soon , and I'll do one for Birmingham too.

It would be great if you, or someone, could provide the webspace for all the guides, so the links were stable and such.

Done.

If we get at least...oh...10 more cities covered, (say 15 total) I'll even spring for a domain name.

From what I remember we have a large selection of Dallas/Fort Worth members. Quite a few New Yorkers... people from Chicago, Cali...

This is an awesome idea Blaine. Welcome back. More cities should be added.

This a great idea and i'd be happy to contribute. I can compile one for you for Colorado....or rather Denver and the surrounding counties. We have:

EBGames
Software Etc (if any still exist)
Gamestop
Buy Back Games
Game Force
and some others

All we could come up with was Dave and Busters and trying to prank call Chris Ray.
