Seeing as how im not spending mass amounts of money on my neo geo games anymore, im going to start playing guitar agian. I do know my way around- back when i was in middle school i got good emough to play purple haze by hendrix.

A few guitars have crossed my mind and im not all that into spending 500+ for one.

Mainly ICX 120 by ibanez is the one i want , any thoughts?

Personally, I would go for a Jackson. But if you're keen on that model and it has the specs. you're looking for then go for it. :buttrock:

Honestly, if you're looking for something cheap to get you started, look at something like this:

http://www.squierguitars.com/gear/gear.php?partno=1323300

It's a Squier, but it's a very nice one. Double humbuckers, locking nuts, a floyd, reverse headstock, and 24 frets to boot. It'll probably run around $200, which isn't bad at all. Spend another $100 on some badass EMG pickups (85 and 81) that will make it sound EXCELLENT, and you'll have a guitar that'll last you for your first few years of learning.

If anything, find a guitar with locking nuts. I h8 guitars that don't stay in tune. Ugh.

look up the guitars you are interested in here:

Everything under $500 is about the same, doesn't matter too much what you get to be honest with you. I like Fender and Gibson, guess I am old fashioned, but a simple SG will be fine for doing just about anything, same with a decent strat.

it depends; i have an epiphone that's a knockoff of a Gibson ES335 and it kinda sounds like shit...lots of buzzing on the higher frets and shitty electronics since day one. I have played really nice sounding Epiphones though, so i think it's luck of the draw in getting a well-made one from the the factory.

Take it from a guy who has been teaching Guitar for about 12 years: The Godin Radiator. One of the finest guitars a person could start with. I even have had advanced students buy them because of thier quality. Low action, great sound, built to near perfection, and is a joy to play! $400 is the average price as well.

Jackson's are top notch ( my favs along ESP's ).

Depending if you want a Floyd Rose model or not, a Dinky Model would make your requirements easily. And Jackson guitars are quite cheap in USA.

I remember back in '99 I bought my KE-3 model with an hard carrying case for about $1100. In the 'states' it could have costed me about $700 or something.

I concur. I've never owned one, but every Godin I've ever played was a very nice guitar.

Whatever you get, make sure you have some decent tuning machines. It can make a world of difference.

One of my first guitars was a cheap Squier Strat. My dad and I switched out the cheap Korean machines for US standard Fender machines, blocked the tail and it played like a dream.

I like Grover and Sperzel machines myself.

you've got the guitars covered and all, but no one is talking about amps at all. the amp is just as important as the geet, hell a good amp will work wonders on a shitty axe. i'd suggest a pignose 30, or the pignose tube amps as they're great for that more bluesy greasy sound and they're tough as hell. you can toss a pig out a three story window and it'll land just fine.

is it better to learn on acoustic or electric?

It depends on waht kind of music you plan to play. You should pick the guitar that fits your music style, but the electric guitar is indeed easier to start with.
