Well, after spending much time in trying to find the cause of this problem and finding no answers, asking here is my only hope.

The thing is that I recently become aware that the second player "right" direction is not working on the 2slot that I bought a while ago. It's obviously a problem of the board, since the cab works fine with my 1slot and other PCBs.

The first thing I tried is plug an AES stick on the 2player port, but I have the same problem, "right" not working.

I tried then following the traces from the jamma edge connector corresponding to the 2nd player "right" to see if there was any broken component or the trace was cut in some point. With help of a multimeter though, It seems the traces are fine at least until it reaches the Neo-C1 chip. Since I have no idea of the outputs of that chip I can't continue searching.

So I'm completely stuck with this and have no idea of what's the cause of this problem... If anyone has any idea of what it can be, any suggestion or even an schematic of a 2 slot, please let me know. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hmm..
That's a tough one..

Did you do a switch test in Hardware check?

Check all your ground wires.

Are you getting voltage/ohms up to the switch from the board....?
And from the board, getting a reading from the back of the harness for 2nd player "right"

Clean the jamma edge real well on the mother board.

Thanks for the reply, here's what I found:

I checked the voltage in the jamma edge while in the hardware test controller check mode and seemed that the pooling was working fine, even the 2player "right" got the +5V normally and 0V when pressed.

So I started checking the voltage on other spots following the 2p"right" trace and when I measured just after the joystick port, it started working correctly :spock: strangely enough, after working fine for a while (powering it on/off and connecting and disconnecting the jamma harness) it ceased to work again. I managed to get it working again a couple of times messing around the 2p joystick port, but it fails again within some time.

It seems to me as if something is not making good contact in that area, but after checking it with detail, everything seems fine to me.... geez, I'm completely lost, but well, now at least I know it shouldn't be something too bad since it's working sometimes...

Any more ideas?

Thanks,

Most likely the pin or whatever they are called in the jamma harness is not making good contact with the board.
(the prong thing in the jamma harness that you solder the wire to)

You have to find which one it is for two player and either change it/try bending it..

I had a similar problem when I put a CPS2 board in my Candy cab.
One of the buttons wasn't working and I found out what it was by moving the wire in back up the harness wire everything was on.
I had to sort of pull up on the wire to make the prong in the jamma harness to make connection.
The prong was worn so I de-soldered the wire from that connector/prong in the jamma harness and put in another(new) one.

Problem Fixed.

Try moving the whole wire harness a different way, whereas now the wires are bending a different way..
The way the wires are bending into the harness sometimes makes them not connect right.

though the harness may feel like it's going on tight one or more of its connectors may not be making good connection.

These things..

jammaCrimpedSM.jpg

Jamma 25/56 crimp on pins

Basically doing this..

This is where I think your problem lies..
You need to either bend it out or change that particular crimp on pin.

It also could be caused by the ground crimp on pin not making good connection.

Boy...I know that problem all too well amongst the video games. Nothing like going through the entire wiring of the cabinet and then tracing it back to TEH JAMMA :crying:
