Do Jap games play on US system?

I've had my Neo Geo for about 10 years now and i've only gotten US games. All of my games play in Japanese and I get the "Import Law" screen every time I play a game. Did I get a Jap system? Does it matter if I get Jap or US games for my system regardless? allways wondered! (samurai shodown allways had blood). I want to get more games, but Jap games are cheaper and easy to find. Help please!

AES games have no regional lockout. AES carts from any region (US, EURO, JAP) will play on any machine.

The BIOS of the system determines what language and censorship you'll encounter when playing the game. For example, if you stick a US game into a JAP system it will boot up in uncensored Japanese by default. If you stick that same game into a US system it will boot up in english (some games are censored in the english mode). The differences between US and JAP games are strictly cosmetic (i.e. the inserts, manuals, and stickers). The actual insides of the carts are identical.

To answer your question simply, it makes no difference whether you buy Japanese or American carts. If your concerned more with price than with collectibility than go for the Japanese cartridges. More often than not American and European carts are much, much more costly.

Also, from the way it sounds you have a Japanese system (otherwise you wouldn't be seeing blood when playing samurai shodown).

There is a modification to play home carts on a JAP machine in the english mode, it's called the debug bios chip. It's a little chip that's installed or soldered into the game system. For more info this faq may be of use:

Several members of this forum would be able to install a debug bios for very little cost. Try e-mailing Kenny Perry Jr. at: snk@wowway.com I'm sure that he'd be able to take care of the problem for you. In addition to the debug bios, outputs for true stereo sound and s-video can also be installed.

Be forewarned though, several games are censored in the english mode. You may end up missing the blood in samurai shodown and go crawling back to the Japanese text!

so theres no way to get both english and japanese at the flick of a switch or code, or anything like that. (i.e. a gamecube mod) well, looks like it's time to learn japanese! btw, thanks again Stinky-Dinkins!

There's a bios switch...

...but I just got mine last week so I haven't tried turning it on or off during gameplay. I either start off with it on or off. Either way, Kenny would be able to answer all the questions you have about this...

There's the unibios debug chip too

Unibios is a bios made by Razoola, member of this forum. It permit you to change censorship, language, AES/MVS modes and other neat stuff.

The Debug bios enables you to change the default settings on ur neo. It also allows you to input dip codes so as to enable other misc stuff like cheats, bosses (without the need to input codes, if any).

The Uni bios does everything the Debug does. Everything is oh so easily accessable. Cheats, Bio-es, CRC Checks to enable you to verify whether your MS1 is legit or just a professionally done conversion. heh. if that matters.

I personally love the little tidbits like the Jukebox feature.

Kinda hard to elaborate on all the plus points of the uni.
