Ok, first things first. I hope I put this topic in the right place. Second, I need your help again guys. With all of the great new 2-D greatness that coming to the Xbox, I realized that I don't have a good fighting pad to play these games on!

So I've been trying to find a way to use my ASCii Dreamcast controller on my Xbox (whenever I get one...). Just got off the phone with a good friend of mine who I feel good do the job, if not, he would know someone who could. So far, no dice because you need to know how the wires on the Xbox will coordinate with the DC controller.

In theory, this SHOULD work, becuase you'd just be using the digital function of the controller and as you all know, the D-pad and buttons on the Xbox are all digital...well, at least I think they are.

I went to Llamma.com and he has a ton of offical Xbox parts, especially the controller cord! JOY! So all you'd have to do is just buy the cord with having to destroy a controller. My problem is finding either someone who already knows how to do it or finding the schematics showing how it's done.

I hope ASCii brings out a fighting pad controller for the Xbox, because I don't use or like the fighting sticks that are out now. The only one I could see getting is from MAS Systems and if you do that you can only buy one with a PS2 setup and you have to buy their Xbox adaptor seperately!

I'm still thinking about getting the Magic Box for the Xbox, which is an adaptor for the Dreamcast, Saturn, and PS2 controllers. The reason I'm hesitating on this is because they said that it only support 4 buttons with DC fighting sticks. So I'm thinking, "Does this include all DC controllers, or just the fighting sticks?".

Well, I know this is a lot to ask on the first post, but if anyone has knowledge on any of this please send a reply. Thanks.

PS

Oh yeah, one more thing. I know that both Samurai Showdowns are going to be on the Xbox, (JOY!*2 ) but will they be on Xbox LIVE? I mean, I don't see why they wouldn't be, but it'd be really nice to have a confirmation. Thanks again.

That's cool and all, and thanks for the input, but I really don't want a fighting stick. I'm so used to these fighting pads it'd ridiculous. :oh_no:

An XBOX controller cable has 5 wires. A Saturn pad has over 10 buttons. Do the math, and you'll still end up with the wrong answer.

You're going to sac an XBOX controller PCB. There's no way around it.

Chup is right. Almost any system's controllers (save for the Neo) uses an encoded clocked signal to reduce the number of lines running from the controller to the console, among other things. You can't just "twist-and-match" the wires (maybe if you saw that article about an X-Box-to-USB adaptation** that threw you off), you will have to wire up each control rail from the DC pad to the encoder chip on the X-box. That, or manage to decode the clocked signal at the end of the DC pad's cord, and wire THOSE rails to the X-box controller's encoder chip, but that still isn't too easy. You can buy a converter that will let you use your DC controller with the 'Box, but I'm not sure if it'll work 100% (IIRC, the Green DC Agetec stick didn't work 100% because of the C and Z buttons not being interpreted as L and R on a certain X-Box converter; I think Amano Jacu had this problem).

(**TechTV among other places had an article explaining about a very simple mod to adapt an X-box controller to a USB port. The thing is, the X-box controller (by no coincidence) uses a very similar wiring scheme to a USB device, and by playing "match the wires" and downloading a driver you can use the X-box controller on your PC with ease. This is ONE CASE of this sort of thing working, and I doubt you'll see it much elsewhere (well I think the 2600 and Genesis or SMS had a similar controller pinout, but this is another isolated case).)

I did the DIY XBOX to PC controller adapter thing. By doing that, you're making the best PC gamepad ever. It works real well. You don't even have to sac a controller. All you need is a USB cable and an XBOX controller extension cable. That way you can just disconnect the XBOX pad from the extension cable and you'll still be able to plug it into your XBOX. Most extension cables are really just elongated breakaway cables, so make sure you keep the short one in one piece. Or you can sac the breakaway and use the extension as the replacement. Whatever.

You're also right about the Atari 2600/Genesis thing. And the 7800/Genesis thing is a very simple fix. It's so simple I'm surprised I haven't done it already. 7800 joysticks suck. They were my very first video game controllers back when I was 3 years old, but I'll trade them in in a heartbeat for Genesis controllers.

Guys, thanks so much the replies ok? Here's my response to your responses. :p

Chup, if I were talking about the Saturn controller, then I'd see your point. But I'm talking about the DC ASCii fighting pad controller, which has seven buttons (including the start button...). Mabey you need to do the math.

DanAdamKOF, first of all, are you talking Magic Box for the Xbox? Because if you are I want to know if this thing is going to work with my controller. I read the same thing about DC controllers and that only four buttons would work...with the fighting stick. Is this true about the fight pad as well? This is the reason I was thinking about modding my controller in the first place! :annoyed:

Hey Roker, could you post a review of this adaptor after you get it? I hope you have an ASCii fighting too. I just want to know if the C & Z buttons will work with it ok? Thanks.

I have an Ascii pad, but I won't have an Xbox for another month. I almost have enough MT Dew caps believe it or not. I have a few connections at a grocery store and a convience store that are saving them for me.
