Okay obviously inspired by Zer0hue's F-91 GUNDAM thread, and having purchased the game I've always wanted to play {Zeonic Front}. I want to know out of the Neo Community here who likes GUNDAM... *Which side would you have been apart of and who do you think is right or wrong? ---Despite the fact that the Earth Federation has the GUNDAM units of the series namesake that are indeed bitchin' like the RX-78GP01 and GP02 "Nuke" Unit... or the F-91, I have always been on the side of the Zeon Archduchy {What it was called before Bandai changed it to "Principality of Zeon" when it became mainstream here}. With the exception of Zeta Gundam where there were splinter factions of both Zeon and Earth Federation and the whole AEUG milita movements, the "Zeon Archduchy" is always portrayed as the bad guys and ultimately evil. I don't agree on this. Sure, Operation British {where Zeon dropped a Space Colony on Syndey Australia} was overkill, but that's the nature of war, and ZEON more or less just wanted to run themselves separate from Earth's whims. WTF was so bad about that?

---It's what I have always feared will one day happen if mankind ever did go into space and colonize. You'd have the "Earth H.Q." giving orders from Earth even though people who had never seen Earth would be several light years away. In the case of GUNDAM, it's right in the proximity of Earth, and what gives the Federation the right to do as they please? On the ZEON note, a lot of the Mobile Suits were every bit as bitchin' like the Gelgoog, Gouf, Zaku II Custom, Cima Garahau's Gerbera Tetra and the Rick Diaz to name a few... but like the Southern "Confederate Army" faced in terms of lacking operational logistics and the capacity to manufacture MORE of their own stuff that always leads the Zeon to having to resort to underhanded tactics. Anyhow I'd be on the side of Zeon... how about you. ---What's your fave GUNDAM series in the order of their liking to you?

MINE:
-------

0083: Stardust Memory
Zeta Gundam
0079: Mobile Suit Gundam
Gundam F-91
8th Mobile Suit Team
Char's Counter Attack
0080: War In The Pocket
Gundam Seed
Turn V Gundam

I usually root for the bad guy in situations like this so I'll have to go with the Zeons. They are the rebels of their generation. Except instead of peace and love they brought mobile suits.

Nobody can even get close to Char. Especially since he gets two of the most bad-ass mobile suits ever, the Sazabi and the Nightingale from the Char's Counter Attack novel (if I'm not mistaken)

Turn A Gundam is by far my favorite, with my least favorite being SEED.

In Turn A, I'll side with the Diana Counter.

For the classic UC universe, I'll side with AEUG. ;)

why is seed so bad?

seed is the UC of this generation because there will be a sequel series. no other AU series has ever had a sequel series.

SEED is an awful, slower paced remake of MSG with all of the downfalls and none of the charm. In stark contrast to the spectacular writing and adult mood shown in Turn A, SEED's creators have admitted the show was aimed at a lower age bracket than other Gundam series. The show was a "least common denominator" aimed show, and succeeded briliantly into lowering Gundam's age and intelligence brackets.

Yoko Kanno's music is contrasted to a decent, but not brilliant musical score.

Tomino's writing focusing on human geopolitics is contrasted to a revival of the "Newtype" situation, which Tomino and several other Gundam directors have indicated simply isn't worth reviving (and Gundam X more than illustrated how tired it had become).

Syd Mead's brilliantrly thought out mecha technology including nanotechnology nearly Niel Stephenson in quality is contrasted to simplistic "phase shields".

Hell, look at the romantic contrast between SEED's dippy teen characters, and the Harry/Kiehl love story. It's like trying to compare Beverly Hills 90210 to Gone with the Wind

One need only load up MAHQ's episode-by-episode reviews to see it all illustrated pretty well.

Tomino, Gundam's creator, has indicated numerous times he's interested in continuing the fantastically fresh and imaginative Turn A universe, while he is turned down for the possibility (yet so far unconfirmed) future SEED series. It's a farce, and Gundam should be handed back to its only great director.

i agree, the "newtype" idea should have stayed in the UC era and it should have been stuck between amuro and char. i think V gundam (which also was setted in the UC, way after char's counterattack) also has newtypes in that series which should have not been. in X, they take the whole newtype deal into people with psychic talents, which is generally not always the case.

if tomino is going to do a turn A sequel, it better be good because i hated the mecha design and the story. the only good thing about turn A were the zakus that were in it. :D

I've seen 4 episodes of V Gundam without any indication of Newtypes, but that pretty well proves nothing. Either way, even Tomino seems to dislike V Gundam (though I kinda dig it...kinda)

In respect to Turn A: Personally, I think ya gotta love a setting that can combine Zakus, the God Finger (it's in there, believe it or not), and a nanotechnological superweapon that makes the Devil Gundam look like a small fry...and stay both serious and great Science Fiction.

and WaDom and Turn X Gundam > all SEED mecha ;)

earth federation: inventors of the gundam, and tough as nails rag-tag fighting force. though i do love the mobile armors that zeon pumps out, and i'm a big fan of the Gouf mobile suits, i'm an ensign on the whitebase first and foremost. i'll take my core fighter out and battle alongside amuro for justice.

I stand by AEUG.

Zeta Gundam is still my favorite series and probably always will be.

null vote

As stated before, neither side is a "true" bad guy. Altough, both governments on both sides are assholes: the Zavi family are overtly corrupt and the UEG/federation high command (with a couple of exceptions) mirror the perfumed, mentaly ossified, "evil old men" of world war I. Hiding out safe in Jarburo base while men and the women were out fighting and dying.

The only rtrue bad guys in UC Gundam were the Titans in Zeta Gundam (heh, department of homeland security)

Although, I do happen to have a slight preference for Zeon, simply because the allowed their forces to act with more initative and were more flexable in combat than the Feddie forces but they don't have Gundams. So, in the end the're even.

Haha, I agree with you completely. But SEED has Fllay.
Fllay alone makes Seed worth watching.

But Turn-A is by far my favorite.

And as for the poll, Brite bitch-slapping Amuro is the greatest moment in anime HISTORY.

So you know where my vote goes.

Done by an american, no less.

Syd Mead of Blade Runner fame did the mecha art.

And it looks great in motion except for the Turn A itself.

Turn X Gundam = :nate:

I'll have to say EF. While i'm not crazy about EF I prefer them to Zeon. Zeon has a worthy cause but I don't really approve of their methods and practices. Yet the make some VERY nice armors (Gundam 0080 and Nue Ziel(sic))

I still want to get all of the Gundam 0080 DVDs.
