Big Red Monitor Adjustment Question

I recently picked up a 4 slot big red with a new 25" monitor at an auction, and the monitor was terribly out of adjustment. What is the best way to get the monitor dialed in? I keep tweaking on it, but I keep feeling like I am doing more harm than good. The picture is kinda dark, but I think it is caused by the tinted glass over the monitor. I have tried using the color adjustment screen in the hardware setup of the Neo, but I dont' know what the hell I am trying to get out of it. Any suggestions?

Perhaps the monitor screen voltage is a little low, thats the lower pot on the flyback transformer assy, below the focus pot. Dont mess with it if your not aware of the safety issues- very high voltage around there. Get your local TV Mr Fixit to do it safely.

Well, here's an update. I followed Reznor007's tips in a previous thread, and they worked great as far as getting the colors set. I found a big piece of my problem lie in the glass covering my monitor. Somebody limo tinted it. The_Chosen_Ones glass on his cab is lightly smoked, whereas mine is a dark as a cheap pair of sunglasses, so I am looking to have a new piece of lightly tinted glass cut.
