Stupid cleaning question

Sorry to ask this but I have had no luck searching, I keep getting fatal errors after clicking on search. Anyways I recently purchased a console style two slot and some MVS carts and wanted to know about general maintance. I've heard its a good idea to pop open the carts and clean them before use, but I just wanted to check and see the best method to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
