We're also more car dependant than the rest of the world, since our country is both spread out, and lacking leadership that's interested in decent public transportation.

I have a sentra that gets good gas mileage that I basically fill up every 6 days.
I drive every day for at least 1.7~2.5 hours a day because of my long commute.
it's biting into my budget. the last time I got gas when my tank was bone dry
with the warning light on it cost me 20 dollars. and that was 11 gallons.
here we usually have decent gas prices but now they're averaging 1.80+ a gallon.
I know it's even worse in places like cali though.

I was considering driving around for the best gas prices but the money I'd be saving by not buying gas for $2.15 a gallon would be spent searching. So fuck that...

Petrol prices are going up WORLDWIDE. In the UK 1 gallon=$6.50!! you really shouldn't complain. sure, you guys don't have great public transport, but its not like ours is much better believe me, I've tried both.

and if you drive an SUV you f**king deserve it anyway

well, gas prices as a whole affect many things other than your car.

one thing I don't like the idea of it changing are the airline prices.

what if that affects shipping prices as well?

I mean, it's a vicious circle. Why is gas so short in supply now?

Did all the gas techs leave the mideast or something?

Air travel is down, well cheaper than it has been in years. I just flew FL to LAX for $150 direct and roundtrip on Delta, bought the ticket 8 days before flying. As for where is the gas... peak oil? Don't know, but you are right, if the gas prices keep going up, fertilizer will as well, and plastics... as will delivery of produce and goods, etc... so, we will all die. Then again, I'm a fatalist and figure there is nothing we can do now anyway... so sit back and watch the world explode,

Fuck you, I like my Explorer XLT thx.

:D

Explorers take unleaded, so for me it's about 1.85 a gallon - still 35 bucks
every week and a half, but I really like my car, so I don't mind at all.

I get about 15-16 too nruva :)

P.S. Hybrid cars look like shit and drive like shit - that little prius gets absolutely
no pickup at all. You hippie heathens almost had me talked into one.

Slaves of the auto-industry, REPENT!

The time of JUDGMENT is at hand! :D :D :D

Your parents slept while the auto industry dismantled the street cars in America's cities during the 50s, you accepted their oil/auto industry approved "visions" of the "American Dream", you though that freeways and suburbs could solve everything, you thought getting cheaper gas than the Europeans somehow didn't have a catch to it, you thought you could keep running away from the city and all would be better...

The chickens are coming home to roost: We're tied to the Middle East economically and militarily, and we're spending up to 20% of our disposable income (vs. 7% for Europeans) for our transportation costs.

As a silver lining, the NY Times reported H2 sales are down almost 40% over the last quarter :D

Gas is at its highest in almost 20 years (although, with inflation, we still paid more per gallon during the energy crisis of the 70s).

Ironically enough, the Saudis don't want gas to get too expensive (like it is now) because it means more people will be broken from the cycle of accepting cars as their primary mode of transportation.

As for airlines, I heard today on the news a lot of airlines "hedged their fuel costs" (I assume that means they got stockpiles before the sudden rise), so they're not being as affected as much. Besides, the airlines are being strongly affected by another major factor: Jet Blue, Southwest, and the other discount airlines that're making them cut prices. US Air may be filing yet another bankruptcy again, though.

what if the SUV or truck they drive is a diesel? thus allowing them 20-35 MPG, and diesel is only $1.29 a gallon here. diesel is always the loophole to any gas crisis.

I have 2 cars.

1985 Chevy Caprice Classic Wagon. Ol' gal nets me 15-18 mpg.

1995 Chevy Impala SS. Ol' gal nets me 16-20 mpg.

I drive ~24-26 miles to work, one way, so ~52 miles a day. 260 miles a week. Goin with 17mpg, I buy ~$16 gallons of gas a week. I spend roughly $31.20 on gas a week, depending on what (and with the Impala HOW) I drive.

I rarely go anywhere else besides work, as I have no life and few friends. I can purchase anything I want/need off of the internet tax free and have it shipped to my door, so I don't pay for gas buying shit either.

It could always be worse.

Not where I am. Fucking diesel, while still less expensive, is still ~$1.83-$1.85 here. Regular is ~$1.95-$2.00. Not much of a savings, except for the kick ass MPG would mean less fill ups.

Doesn't diesel supposedly cause more pollution as well?
