SEGA is being acquired by Sammy. Its 100% confirmed, and its not just a merger, but a complete aquisition.

Head to www.pign.net for more details.

to be fair, Sega need good leadership at the moment, as they have been lacking direction as a business since they stopped DC production. Whether Sammy can provide this is another matter tho. Are Sammy really the big evil overfiends that everyone seems to make out they are? Or are they just aggressively trying to revive the declining arcade market?

Nah. Nothing really 'new'

But they could scrap the Sammy name and use Sega only.

Now all they need to do is design a Sammy system and they are Sony 9 years ago.

Personally, I'm a bit nauseated by this, as SEGA (Or Service Games) has been around for more than forty years now, and its a shame to see such an old workhorse in the gaming industry get swallowed up by some Japanese pachinko company that has yet to truly prove themselves in the world of video games.

Truest fucking statement possible. This really fucking sucks guys. SErvice & GAmes, doing their thing for 40 long years swallowed by a company that does Pachinko... I guess this splains where Sammy got their money...

I fucking hate those coin games. Dave n Busters... they suck big fat floppy donkey dick for that, all the cute little women running around giddy as fucking pigs in shit with their cups of worthless tickets thinking they are getting 'value' for their fun at the gift pickup counter. That and Dave & Busters typically have NO 2D games anywhere.

Fucking sellout if you ask me. My 2nd favorite game company of all time in the shitter and my 1st fav (SNK/SNKP) chewed up and avoiding to be swallowed by Sammy.

If anything they'll just scrap the SEGA name and use Sammy only. :p That's the REALLY sad part. During credits and intros they'll probably but a big fat Sammy logo on there, with only "SEGA Sammy Holdings Inc." (SEGA's new name it looks like) as a foot note.

I've never heard of a company buying out another company, and then taking the bought out comapny's name instead of sticking with their old one.

...Atari? :smirk:

And it would be a wise move. Sega is much more known worldwide than Sammy.

Not all is lost. It was reported in the UK press today that sega is bringing out one of those straight to tv consoles, a megadrive with pre built in games like Golden Axe & Altered beast, Retail is £29.99.

I though though.....the Megadrive III hasnt got a cart slot has it?? Isn't it exactly the same thing?? Maybe i'm wrong ive never used one.

yeah, I think that the "Sammy" name could be dropped. The SEGA name and logo is way more recognisable.

It's pretty obvious why so many people at neo-geo.com resent Sammy. Still, Sammy may be the only company recognized by the mainstream that strongly supports 2-D anymore. They're also fairly big, and have a lot of financial resources. Capcom doesn't seem to care about 2-D anymore. Sony downright resents 2-D for some reason. Nintendo seems to have forgotten that 2-D even exists (unless you count flat-shaded polygons). Even SNK/SNKP has pushed 3-D (Hyper 64, some Playstation/2 games, KOF Neowave backgrounds). Having all the former 2-D giants together in one company might be the only way to save our beloved 2-D games right now. Let's hope they use all those other company's resources to the best of their ability. Of course, it'll never be 24-bit Samurai Shodown 2. :crying:

If we're lucky, some of the old SNK teams might even be reunited.
