View Full Version : Here it is! The consolized Atomiswave!

Amano Jacu

As some of you might now, our board member supergoose79, known for his great work on MVS consolization and supergun building, offered to consolize for free (that is you only pay costs) the first Atomiswave that was sent to him. I, Amano Jacu, decided to take profit of this offer and sent my Atomiswave to him some time ago. Finally, it arrived yesterday and it just rocks! Possibly, it's the first consolized Atomiswave in the world (and it might be the last one as well) and here we can see the results:

Side view. There are 2 controller ports compatible with Neo controllers as well as with my own modded controllers, and the ON/OFF switch.
http://members.lycos.co.uk/AmanoJacu/fotos/Consolized1.JPG

Rear view. A db9 connector is used for the RGB video and sound output, designed to be used with a scart cable in an European TV. The power input is designed for a sc200 PSU through a din5 connector. There's also a LED that's on when the power is on :buttrock:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/AmanoJacu/fotos/Consolized2.JPG

Of course, the AW still features the native VGA output in its front, so it can be used in a compatible VGA monitor.

I want to deeply thank Falk for his totally awesome work in this one.

Now, if only I could get my hands on one good game for this system...

EDIT: The pics here: http://home.arcor.de/supergoose/aw are down, I just put 2 I made myself.

That is the sweetest thing I have ever seen! OMFG, now I would like one.

Neogeo dead? Bah!, leave it to supergoose to revitalize even the atomiswave.

Damn fine work, damn fine work.

...man that thing is Sweeeeeeeeeeet! With that set up even I would be tempted into purchasing one {if it came already consolized I mean}... and that "Demolish Fist" game just keeps calling to me. Going to go check out Dolphin Blue as I hear it's at a nearby arcade.

Oh well, all the new SNK games are coming to the AW, the Neo Geo is getting no more games, the neostore sells AW games and this is considered unrelated...

WTF? Half the topics in News & Rumours are either about SEGA, E3, or Japhei.

How is this any less relevant?!

Anyway, awesome work 'Goose. Amano, you're a lucky guy. I'd kill to be able to play Rumble Fish at home.

Amano, it looks AWesome! :D Kudos to SG! :buttrock:

Just 2 questions:

And the 2 extra control ports, for GG Isuka, as example? It really needs extra hardware, or it could be built-in in the unit just like the 2 NG ports?

Considering that 5th button/select fact, you can plug a custom 5 button, AW-style controllers, right?

I think the key aspect of this system is that he can play all new Playmore releases with an Old Style Joystick. I mean, that just kicks serious ass.

there are 4 player aw games?

that looks sweet by why all the "i cant believe it" and "it might be the last consolized aw" coments? is there some sort of protection feature that makes consolizing them very hard, or is it similar to consolizing an mvs?

Yes, Guilty Gear Isuka is the first (and the only until now), as far as I know.

People are just TOO impressed how neat it looks like, that's all ;)
'The last' just because nobody is sure if AW will float or sink in the market, IMHO.

Well Supergoose what said sometime ago that the conversion was pretty simple and main problem was housing all the wiring inside the unit.

SuperGoose, add some comments about it, please ;)

I'm curious to see some inside pics if avaliable! :multi_co: :multi_co:

even if that thingy is from ikea ...

that looks sweet by why all the "i cant believe it" and "it might be the last consolized aw" coments? is there some sort of protection feature that makes consolizing them very hard, or is it similar to consolizing an mvs?
it's basically the same as consolizing a mvs board, but there's very littly space inside. i had to drill/cut/mod a lot to be able to sqeeze the wires in there and got problems with the shielding, so i had to take it apart again. worked the 3rd time, i put it together ...

i'm pretty sure, that you won't see as many guys, who're willing to mod this system, since they can get more $$$ for waaay less work. that said ... i myself am not interested in doing another one unless i get a really tempting offer. i consolized Amano's system for free, because i wanted to test the system without having to spend any of my own money and when i first tried to put it together ... well ... i almost fucked up and paying $400 to $600 for a new system out of my own pockets would of sucked big time. fortunately, it worked again, after i put it back together to be able to send it off to my parents' place, so my dad could have a closer look at it ...

as for more pics ...
i lost most of the interesting pics, when i formatted my hdd last week. i burned all my important stuff twice, but my dvdrw drive doesn't read any of both discs anymore. :(
there ... however ... are a few more up :
http://home.arcor.de/supergoose/aw

as for this thread being moved to unrelated ...
i'd like to know, who did this. seriously.
i mean ... i can understand it and i've always been annoyed by all the uninformed atomiswave talk in gd, but with all of those other stupid topics up there ...
can only think of one very special person.

not to downplay this by any means, but everyone is orgasming over 4 ports, a switch and an led.

sure its great, and again not to bash or belittle, but it doesnt even have rgb->ntsc (which it really doesnt need, fucking europeans and your scart)

My guess is that the 2 extra player controls need to be wired in a cart that would fit in the I/O expansion bay on top of the JAMMA harness. Such cart should be included in the games that need it. So I would just need to connect some controller ports there.

If you use a Neo stick in this AW, you only get the first 4 buttons. The select button acts as coin instead of the 5th AW button (doesn't make sense to have an action button located there). The 5th button is wired in one of the unused pins of the Neo Geo controller pin-out, so if I use my modded DC sticks or my MAS stick I have that button ready to be used.

I would get a jamma connector and paint it red and then use it to cover the edge, but other then that, it looks freakin sweet!! If I was set on sticking my AW in an Egret 29, I would do the same, well, a little different, as I would need the jrok in there, if there is even room. Man that's just great!!!

Amano :

don't worry about him. he's prolly been pissed, cause i couldn't get that preteen pussy, last night ...

NGT :

i didn't cover the edge, cause Amano said, that he'd still want to be able to put a jamma connector on it. otherwise i'd have used red tape.
the jrok should fit in there, but i'm not too sure about the shielding.

Thats pretty shway. Wouldn't mind one myself. About how much did that cost you Amano?
Amano sent me his system and 35€. postage back to spain cost me just over 20€, cause i wanted it to arrive as fast as possible. otherwise it would of been 16.50€.

SHO :

prolly too much. the aw looks to be way more fragile than mvs boards and i almost destroyed Amano's board, when i tried to hook up a headphone jack. therefor i'd have to ask for at least as much as the hardware costs to make sure i won't have to pay too much out of my own pockets. just in case ...

plus ... i only wanted to mod one system to be able to test it and one game without spending any of my own money. i offered to do this mod for the cost of parts for at least one month and only 3 guys asked me about it. Amano was the the 4th and also the one, who finally sent me his system.

Amano Jacu

Today I brought the AW to a friend's house, he's got an old JAMMA cab. I tried this AW in it and it worked OK, but I had the problem everybody is complaining about: the image is too DAMN bright. Is still playable, but annoying.

That's the reason I didn't want to lose the JAMMA connector function. However, it would be nice to put a female JAMMA connector there to cover it when not in use, but I don't have any and they are hard to find here.

Seriously now.

Do you think it's possible to get a full RGB-singnal out of an Atomiswave? it should be possible, as that's a Jamma board after all.

A consolized AW with pure RGB lead out would be nice of KOF2004 ever come out as good.

Amano Jacu
07-07-2004, 12:17 AM
Sorry to bump this but I never noticed Shito's question.

Yes, you get a RGB video signal from the JAMMA connector just like the MVS, that's actually what goose used. Of course you can also use the VGA port.
However, many people have complained that if you put the AW in a regular JAMMA cab the image is too bright.

Yep,

I agree, Samurai Showdown series is what Neo Geo is all about for me. I will wait until the release SS & MS for this system before I make the jump. Also, great work Supergoose, awesome work of art there. I will be sure to hit you up to mod one for me when they finally start releasing SNK games. It would be worth it for me to make it worth your while. :smirk:

P.S.

Amano Jacu,

Are you still having problems with this system video output that is too bright on a cabinet or have you found a solution yet? :spock:

Amano Jacu

I wish someone would offer that to international customers....

Supergoose has no problem dealing with people in USA although he is in Germany, but the shipping costs just increase. Also take care that I usually live in Barcelona (Spain), I'm in Canada just for the summer.

Are you still having problems with this system video output that is too bright on a cabinet or have you found a solution yet?

Well, I only tried it once in a friend's cab (I don't have a cab), and it was very bright. The solution would be to check if the monitor has a brightness controller and tune it all the way down, or just add some resistors to the R,G,B lines.

Spike Spiegel
07-07-2004, 12:47 PM
You're not the only one to talk about it being too bright. If you have a cab that's going to run this, and only this, then it's not that big of a deal. As you said, you can turn it down. But still, hope the colors aren't too washed out for you. I hope to get one of these... one day.

:glee: That's cool man!, I am going to buy one as soon as i can. I earned and
got about $392.00 from selling Six AES games & 1 Phantom-1

So i would like one modded for home use because i am disable & i
can't go to the Arcades like i use to. I am injoying my MVS System that i
got from Kenny who traded with me & i traded my AES system & four AES
games plus one controller.

It was a perfect trade.

Also a Super Nova that i will get soon, also they should bring out
classic Arcade games as well as new ones too.

Hint TMNT ARCADE! Plus Port over Neo Geo games from the MVS & AES plus,
many other games from other companys too.

I think the system has potential, but I'm not quite sure whether it will actually be realized or not. Personally, I'd wait if I were you.

You said you've got an MVS system, right? Well, unless you've got a ton of games for it, I'm guessing that there are probably a lot of excellent titles that you'd get a better return off of. I'd build up my MVS collection, and wait and see what happens with the Atomiswave. Maybe it'll turn out to be a great system, but it's quite expensive and doesn't really have all that great of a library at this point, IMO.

Just food for thought, anyway.

about that & so i might wait for the price to drop down a bit
before i spend the money.

I only have four MVS games right now like,
Blazing Star, Metal Slug 5, Rage of the Dragon & Samurai Shodown 3.

I plan on buying, Metal Slug X, Shock Troopers, Samurai Shodown 2, MS3,
MS4 & a few of some of the fighting games soon.

What i most want to get is SSVS MVS soon.

Those are all terrific choices .... well, MS4 is a little weak but definitely worth the price of admission on MVS, IMO. Also check out the Last Blade series and the KOF's. Neo Turfmasters is my favorite sports game on the Neo - you may want to give it a look too.

What i most want to get is SSVS MVS soon.

 Does it have freeplay because i asked Kenny if he had any on hand
and he told me he could special order it for me and Consolized the Atomiswave
so i could play it at home.

Maybe i could trade him for it & maybe some games like MVS, AW games or if
he has any Shock Boxes for my MVS games.

If i trade for one, what game should i get with it.

Maybe Knights of Valor 3, Dolphin Blue, Demolish fish, Rumble Fish or Guitly Gear
Isuka. :D

Nevermind all the Capcom and Konami (and Midway!) titles that are not coming to AW... where did you hear SvC2 announced? Nowhere. KOF '94 Rebout is a PS2 game, and I have no idea what you mean about "Mobile Metal Slug" unless you mean a cell phone game, which I'd be willing to bet is not coming to AW.

You might want to edit your post again, because I'm sure I must be misunderstanding what you're trying to say. Maybe you mean those are games you would like to see?

Well the week before SNK told the world they were 100% going to the Atomiswave i called them and guess i spoke to the lady at the front desk.. i was asking about the rumor at the time of them going to the new system and she told me in a very sure and "oh well the world will find out next week" voice said they were going to the new system and they have Metal Slug, SS, KOF. and SVC going to the next system..
So in my eyes i think that we will see something after KOF 04' and Battle C. about SVC2...

I'd love to be wrong, though.

Bump, the time as come for me to get one of these freaked DreamCast (lol). The reason is: the new SS which looks awesome. :)

Amano, can you please list all the consolizing specs of your machine?

What I need is just a multi-out leading RGB and stereo to my euro-scart TV.

stereo to my euro-scart TV.
the atomiswave has seperated gnd lines for l+ and r+. better use seperate speakers withount an amp in between, or else you might damage your aw. i tried it and it wouldn't even power up, until i removed those wires and put it back together for the 3rd time.

mods :
- modded baseplate
- power switch
- 2 neo geo compatible joyports
- power inlet for a sc200
- power led
- rgb out with mono sound through the scart cable

can still be used in a cab.

What Falk said. Anyway remember that, by default, the AW features a VGA port that can be connected to most regular VGA monitors to play the games in hi-res (31khz, 640x480), although certain games (like Neowave, and possibly the other 2D SNKP games) look better in low-res (that gets outputted through scart in my case to my regular TV via RGB).

You mean there's NO WAY to mod an AW to also lead out stereo sound to a stereo TV? :(

That's not true :)
Those aren't mono, they're stereo and the independent grounds from the molex are run to the ports.
