I've twisted my brain into a pretzel going over all this tonight, so any help would be appreciated.

I have a dvd burner, but it'll only let me record around 2 hours. What I'm wanting to do is since I have all this space on the disc (4.7gb), I want to be able to make a vcd-dvd type thing. That way I can fit around 450min of stuff I can play in my dvd player. Is there anyway to do this (easily)? I'm guessing I'm going to have to take my .avi files and convert them to mpeg vcd format, but I'm not exactly sure where to start, how to do it, etc etc. Is this idea even possible?

I know you have to do something like upsampling the audio to 48khz, does nero burning rom automatically do this?

I don`t think so, but the websites I mentioned have every manual you can think of or otherwise their forums might be able to help you..

Yes, there's a program called TMPGEnc.

Sonic MyDVD is an easy to use program to make video CDs and DVDs, it also builds the menus.

I'm using Sonic MyDVD. However, when I want to make a VCD, it only gives me the options for a regular cdr (700mb/800mb), and doesn't recognize the fact that my dvd+r has 4.7gb of space on it.

That's because DVD can't be VCD as far as I know.

But you can burn those same MPEGs to a DVD also, though the videos just take some more space..

I've never made a VCD, so I'm pretty clueless when I ask this question: Are VCDs just regular cds with mpegs on them? That is to say, can I just burn a bunch of mpegs to a dvd disc and they'll play in dvd players as vcds would?

"If you download, then you prolly downloading avi format. You gotta change that to mpeg2 and then use some program to author the dvd with a menu and shit. This allows you to play it on a dvd player. http://www.dvdrhelp.com is the site that I used to learn about all that stuff. Depending on your computer, it can take alot of time, but its worth doing with certain anime.

It's cool to use virtualdub to put clips together from the anime you are burning and add some trance music in the back for a menu for your dvd. Looks cool as hell. Thats what I did with naruto."

I think just putting some MPEGs on a DVD won't work since DVD uses that VIDEO_TS structure.

When creating a DVD with MyDVD, it converts all the MPEGs to the DVD format, why not to try that?

This is a pretty interesting idea, but I'm not really sure if it's possible. You should probably post this on the dvdrhelp boards, though I believe you have to wait a certain amount of time after registering.
