Swapping interiors of the Neo?

Here's the deal: Good thing about my Neo is that it's in mint condition. The bad thing is that it has a less than stellar RGB picture quality. I'm thinking of making it better. The RGB bypass mod is of course an option and I'm thinking of it but all my machines have been mod free and I was thinking of keeping them that way. One solution that I thought of to get better picture quality would be to buy a Neo in terrible cosmetic shape but with good quality RGB and replace the internals with my current Neo. Or maybe simply replacing the top cover would be enough?

From what I've hear the internals of the Neo have changed quite a lot and quite a few times between the first and last runs. I have never opened a Neo. I'd like to know if the swap I described would be possible between different Neo revisions. I'm looking for a 100% physical compatibility in the swap. In other words no need to use force to make stuff fit, all the attachment screws taken off could be used after the swap etc.

Would it be possible?

Yes you can do that -- the board form factor is still the same.
