linky

It's about time the administration got around to planting evidence of WMDs in Iraq.

Poll Edit: "was planted but U.S. forces to facilitate presidential buttcovering"
should read "was planted by U.S. forces to facilitate presidential buttcovering"

damm. I'm tired

I read an article about that this morning (probably the same one). It sounds like the people planting the artillery shell had no idea it contained sarin. (otherwise it would've been wiser to fling it into a camp).

Anyone have a link? I haven't even ehard of this yet, though I'd be sure if its one shell it's leftover from the days of the US loving WMD's in Iraq.

This is too fishy.

The thing is the 105mm shell* would look different than a standard HE shell. Gas shells look different: they are a different color, have different markings, and have a different shape/structure (any current/former army or marine arty out there, can you back me up?). The guys rigging it up for a command detonated mine would have had to notice the difference. That thing would have been to valuable to waste as a boobytrap.

*a standard U.S./NATO caliber which was used a lot by the U.S. in Korea, Vietnam and is still in use today.

The shell was left over from the Iran-Iraq war of the 80s(?). If we planted it, we had decided to invade Iraq in the 80s...

And in the 3 articles I read about it, all from different sources, it didn't sound like they were being played as 'finding WMDs' because of this fact.

...well if the rumors are true, Regan/Bush administration already had something like that planned out but didn't go through with it.

If it is a left over from the Iran/Iraq war the Pentagon would've known about it then, they probably might still have the bill of sale on file somewhere... since we sold it and a shitload of other WMDs to Iraq.

Yeah, weird. But this hasn't hit the mainstream yet, wait a day or two.

We've already found shell casings similar to this one - it's really not that big of a deal. I don't understand why the US would plant something like this, since it's not really going to significantly change perceptions about WMD in Iraq.

Yeah, let's wait a little while so the story can build up, something doesn't sound right about this...

Edit:
Kaos, yeah, you're right about that. I was watching the news last week about a woman who lost her son in the war. She said she was going to vote for Bush just because "he's a Christian." I'm sorry but that's some of the stupidest mess I've heard! It's takes more than being a good Christian to run the office, you have to have knowlege in the world and keep everything in order. If people vote Bush because of that fact, then we're all doomed. In fact, we're doomed if Kerry is president to because what has he done lately to prove himself worthy as President of the United States? Sure, he has lots of money and a gold diggin' wife, but what else is there to know about him? Nothing (yet)!

I can't wait to see how Bush is going to get out of this scandal with the prisoners.

I think most people are clever enough to know that a Sarin shell doesn't constitute WMD in anything but the loosest sense of the word.

As we've discussed before... people are stupid.

I meant we planned to invade Iraq because of WMDs last year, and they planned for ways to get to Saddam in the 80s. I was just being facetious. Though had the administration planned shit like that would I be surprised? Hell no.

Sad, sad.

It's a possiblity it could be what they're looking for. It's considered that because during Bush Sr.'s term, word has it they sent weapons to Iraq during the Gulf War. If anyone remembers, that was known as the Iran Contra-Scandal. This situation was a humongous mess and the Bush Sr. Administration kept denying that they sent weapons. Although we don't know if they did, 14 years in the making could answer that question if whether or not the U.S. is part of another scandal.

Bush Jr. should have kept his mouth shut about the WMD because I'm sure he thought that was something no one was going to look into without any questions. Once they investigate a little more, all the fingers will be pointing to the Bush family. Unless they can backpaddle like Denzel Washington did in Out of Time, they're pretty screwed.

well yeah

we know they have chemical and biological weapons because we gave them to them (Iraq) . I believe during the Iran Iraq war .

Galfordo some people do consider that (above) wmd .

But its going to take finding a nuclear plant in Iraq to give the smoking gun (no such thing maybe in 7 more years tho...?), I mean already theve found more sarin , anthrax , blister agent and all sorts of other chemical agents in that country . I personally found a college paper ( in local trash burn pit ) on the best way to complex anthrax .

Sadam admitted he still had vast stockpiles of this stuff (why after 12 years) that was supposed to be destroyed none of these either would be considered a smoking gun .

Well with him having buried MIG-25 Foxbat high altitude interceptors in the sand, it's just a matter of time before other stuff starts turning up. I don't think we've really had the time to really go "All Out" looking for the WMD because we spend 90% of the time just trying to contain the aftermath of the initial invasion. Some of it no doubt found it's way out of the country and probably is in nearby Syria, which will eventually become a target of the USA, once we are better entrenced there. They might be claiming to be on our side right now, but that's bullshit. ---There's more than oil at stake here, it's about a staging ground for the future campaigns on the War on Terror.

I'm sure they'll find WMD.

Sarin, Anthrax...these agents could be homebrewed as I understand it, and one shell easily is left over from the Iran-Iraq war at which time we gave them WMD's. You'd need to find a LOT of them to indicate the presence of a WMD program.
