How many of you have been to a concert where the opening act totally stole the show from the main act? I have been to a couple well know acts and countless local act myself and was curious to here about the opening act that stole the show you were at.

#1 Cibo Matto at the First Ave. Main Room opening for Luscious Jackson.

Going in to the show I liked both bands, but it is the only show I have been to that the opening act did more encores than the head liner this was also the first of three show that Cibo Matto did in Minneapolis in less then two months.

#2 Boom Boom Satellites at the First Ave. Main Room opening for Moby.

First and only show I went to with the fake I.D. It was less than 1 month from my B-day.
I had never heard of the Boom Boom Satellites before this show. I went out and bought the album the next day.

When did that Cibo Matto concert occur?

Just tryin go to get a date down, since if I remember correctly, most of their CDs (in the music stores) have discontinued since about a couple of years ago.

It's still large speculation that one of the girls, from that group, is now in Gorillaz, playing the part of Noodle. (But a good chance contributes to the music as well, since there's is definitely Cibo Matto kind of stuff, mixed in there)

Pop Disaster Tour in 2002.

Green Day opened for Blink 182 and was just more pumped up than Blink. I also wish Green Day played more songs.

...but it was already Green Day.

Are we talking about bands that happened to start before another bad or the lesser known bands that showed their stuff?

Cibo Matto owns everybody.
You gotta know your chicken.

I actually tried to get tickets during that tour but they sold out before I got around to it... Any show with Cibo Matto on it usually sells out in about .009 seconds.

I went to see Gwar once and a band named Amen totally won me the fuck over! They actually have a new cd titled Death Before Musick comming out tomorrow in the U.S.

I'm not sure how thats speculation. Miho Hatori is actually credited in the Gorillaz cd booklets.
Also listed with a credit of additional vocals is Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads.

You gotta remember though that Blink 182 is one of the worste live bands ever, and that the real opener for that was usually a local band (I cant remember who it was down here, my sister went)

Heck. You're right. Just scanned across both CDs, Viva la Woman and Gorillaz. There it is.

Why were Greenday opening for Blink182!!??

Surely they are a much more established band

Anyhow, mine's Mansun supporting Cast, Mansun much better on the night and probaly overall a better act. Though at the time (1996) Cast were pretty fun.

Indeed I have.

I saw a band called Moving units open for Blur at First Ave. In Minneapolis sometime last year. Blur played a very decent set, but the freshness of Moving Units was more than Damon Albarn could keep up with.

If you havn't heard Moving Units yet, check out some of their songs here: http://www.movingunits.net/indexx.html

Oh yeah one more... Mindless Self Indulgence opening for ICP @ the Target Center of all places in Minneapolis. I didn't realize it at the time as I was far to under the clowns hypnosis to realize that there was other music in the world at that time... but man, MSI is a really fun band. They just play with so much energy. Anyway again you can hear MSI @ http://www.coachella.com/1989_msi.zip & http://www.mindlessselfindulgence.com/inside/audio.php

My buddies' band Zero42 were FAR better than Fuel in concert opened for them a few years ago.

Ruder Than You kicked the Toasters' ass off the stage at the Chameleon in Lancaster.

ERrmmm.. that's all for now.

A Perfect Circle when they opened for NIN in 99 as well as Ill Nino when they opened for Drowning Pool a few years back, hell they even covered Bodies at the end of the show because Drowning Pool was booed off stage and wouldn't perform any more.

Zebrahead opening for Reel Big Fish, and Zebrahead opening for 311. Of course they blow everyone off stage so it's kind of unfair to list all of them.

Tenacious D opening for Weezer

And Foo Fighters opening for Red Hot Chili peppers

I went to go see Pedro the Lion at some shit small club in downtown Ybor City (Tampa FL) a few years ago. Normally with indie bands, they drag along interesting less known bands for the tours. Well, this night it was IDA, I'd heard of them before, but never heard them. Blown away wasn't even beginning to describe the crowd's reaction. Everyone was talking about how amazing they were... and I litterly forgot who I had gone there to see in the first place. Just an amazing live experience and one of my favorite shows of all time. Their recorded stuff has never come close to that live show, the way a droning guitar and violin track softly ended as a train rattled through down town Ybor... Creepy... haunting... amazing.
