whoa, I can't believe nobody has yet opened a thread about it
It was so overhyped till release, now It seems nobody cares

I finished it 3 times
we already know about its new improvements so that's what I didn't like

----It may contain spoilers------

-too fucking EASY
hell....I played at hard level and finished it in 9 hours, no prob
bosses are even easier thanks to firstview camera (ocelot, psychomantis, ect..)

-cut scenes are too long,

-some of new dialogues are just RIDICULOS
such as
psycho mantis fight
or those sex-related
what's the fucking point in a legendary game like this, when Snake tells Meryl about how good her butt is
or at the end before going into the tunnel with the jeep, when He says "It seems we can't have the sex scene yet".....meh

other than that, I really enjoyed it
kinda amazing, I was like "allright I'll give it a shot"...but as soon as game started, my senses were again captured by this wonderful game
and the final song in gaelic language by Rika Muranaka.....the awesome
at least compared to the shameful final song in MGS2

I was incredibly disappointed with this game. The map is exactly the same as the PSX version. OK, you have the new abilities from MGS2, but the MGS1 map was not designed to use them. They should have changed it so you can take advantage of them, and also make it bigger.

The game is still good, but I expected much more.

I still have yet to beat MGS: Twin Snakes not because it's hard, but because no matter how I toggle the freggin' controls, the control scheme just doesn't feel right to me at all. Sure it looks even better than my MGS w. BLEEMCAST discs but I honestly still like the original 1997 released Metal Gear Solid over Twin Snakes. David Hayter tried a little to hard to redo all the dialogue, ending every damn sentence in a constipated grunt... Naomi's lost her "Accent"... new chick for Mei Ling I couldn't stand. I could go on. Sure I love it for it's *NEW EDITIONS and it will most certainly be in my G.C. lineup. But I still think the original version is the better of the two. Sometimes a cosmetic overhaul and some added perks doesn't neccessarily mean a better product IMO.

It was a remake, not directed by Kojima, so I didn't really feel like playing it. Didn't feel like watching the 'Psycho' remake not by Hitchcock, either. I'm just funny that way.

I was really looking forward to it, but I can't bring myself to buy new games lately. I mean, it was MGS TS and Onimusha 3.

I bought Onimusha 3 and immediately gave it to a friend because I didn't feel like connecting my PS2 to my tv.

A complete remake of an old movie is like completely different than a game with just some remade stuff..

Here's hoping for an Xbox port.

I loved that game, I had pre-ordered it, and made the otacon ending.

I was only disappointed by the fact that the new MGS2 features don't add nothing to the game (not a bad thing, I really prefer the original mechanics). It could be better if they had put an option called "original game", where all the new commands were disabled.

And I liked the new FMVs, but I miss the old ones... they could had keeped as an extra gallery or in my "original game" option.

But I really liked the soldier AIs, very challenging. Maybe it's just me, but I think that they are smarter and have better ears and eyes than the MGS2 ones.

Meh.

I didn't like it, but I didnt play it enough to form a fair opinion.

All I know is that I can amuse myself for hours and hours on the Tanker in MGS2.

This thread got me interested to dig up some of the interviews on MGS:TS to see how much involvement Kojima had on the project. I gather he did have a lot of input on it, but the interview does suggest he wasn't involved in the day-to-day in it.

http://cube.ign.com/articles/436/436877p1.html?fromint=1

Interestingly was the mention that Eternal Darkness' character designs actually use more polygons than MGS2's, when Eternal Darkness' characters didn't look nearly as good.

Personally, I think they should have included the VR missions into Twin Snakes.

I also wonder if SK might attempt getting permission to do a GC port of MGS 2, and maybe GC and X-Box ports of MGS 3, but that's speculation at the moment of course.

My point was that when the old game/movie was so great, remaking it is pointless. Better graphics are fine, but a lot of the changes don't sound like improvements, and Kojima's games are enough like movies for the analogy to hold. Change the acting, change the directing, add some bullet time or whatever -- different game.

I don't want MGS not directed by Kojima, I don't want Psycho not directed by Hitchcock, I don't want Peanuts not drawn by Schultz, I don't want Marlowe not written by Chandler...the list goes on and on. You don't have to agree, but I hope you see what I'm saying.

I thought it was okay. For the most part it's still the same great game just with the obivous enhancements (graphics, extended scenes, MGS2 controls). I feel like a lot of the updates were unnecessary considering how good the original was. I'd only get it if you're in serious need of a MGS fix and can't wait for MGS3.

My only real gripe is the extended scenes. Some were cool, but others were just laden with Matrix inspired cinematography. I'm getting sick of it. Too many games and movies are doing the same special effects. Anyways, the REX/FOX scene towards the end more than makes up for it.

I was really impressed with the game. The is prolly due to me only playing about an hour of the original when it was first released, so TS was more of a "first experience" for me. So looking at it from that perspective, it totaly rocked and has made it into my top 10 favorite games list. I'd like to play the original just to compair when I get some time.

I think it is a great game. Some of the voice overs in the original come across better, but I don't mind the accent fixes, yes fixes. Both Naomi and Mei Ling were raised in America, they wouldn't really have accents. There was some bullet time stuff but I don't think it got to carried away myself, most of the "snake does something badass" movies ended up with him falling on his ass after he did them. The game was originally very movie heavy in theme (Kojima being a bit cinema buff) so it wasn't a suprise that there were some newer things added in.

A lot of the stuff you complained about were in the PSX version as well, such as Snakes butt comment I believe. And just like the original Metal Gear Solid, Kojima was involved in directing and producing the game. He had some help this time around but in the end what stayed and what went was his call, so don't try to pass stuff off on other people.

Overall the game was great, I still enjoy it far more than MGS2, while the enviroements where the same I didn't really care simply because it had been so long since I played the original. There was never any situation in the game in which you had to use control ideas from MGS2, but there were plenty of chances to use them (they often make the game easier). On Ultimate, it's about the only way you will be able to get through the game. If you are looking for a challenge because it's to easy, try that.

You'd think so, but I have friends born here who've picked up their parents' accents. One English accent (and only one of his parents is from England, although the other is from Brazil), and two Chinese accents. Of course I also have friends who didn't inherit their parent's accents, so go figure. It could go either way.

It's been said in interviews that Kojima wasn't involved in the day to day stuff, which is not surprising since he's typically in Japan and the game was developed in England (right...? It was England, wasn't it?) I'm sure he had final approval over everything and I'm sure it's a fine game. But for me: PASS. Actually, I shouldn't say that. Maybe I'll rent it. November's a long time away still.

I forgot to mention the controller problems. Merc is right: the GC controller is awful for this game. Specially the fact that the face buttons are not analog, as they had a lot of importance in MGS2. Also the Z button sucks.
