This topic is basically what the title says. Is there a game that you've liked no matter how many bad things were said about it by other people you've managed to find some reason why you adore playing this game no matter how many gawd awful reviews are written about it.

I ask nicely that you do not insult anyones choices or opinions in games here. This is just a thread to get some nice, 'wows' and 'laughs'.

As for me I would have to say one of my most favorite games that were disliked by the majority of the public were, Mystical ninja 64 and quest 64. I don't know what it is about it but the kiddie gameplay and corny dialogues for both games do nothing but make me laugh and the fact that I don't have to take such rpgs seriously puts me at ease.

Oni.

I don't understand why this game from Bungie was so universally derided. The controls were very easy to handle, the realistic building models were refreshing compared to the traditional level setups found in other games that were usually designed to strategically hide enemies, the stealth elements in the game were well thought out, enemies that called out pals for reinforcement ala Metal Gear was sexy, and the close quarter fighting-game-like moves just make my sechs fall out.

Real Sound: Kaze no Regret

In fact, I think every single Warp game is a total masterpiece. The threshold of most people stops at Real Sound, but it's actually a wonderful game experience.

I have to second you on Oni. What an awesome game.

You know, if they just stripped out the guns, it would make for a really good Streets of Rage/Double Dragon 3D engine.

The Bouncer
---The game was redundant and could've been better, but I always liked the game no matter what. *Plus Echinda was one of the better skanks in video game history.

...while he game has yet to come out, I'll have to say that I'm already all about Kill Zone. Most people loved HALO, I for one couldn't stand it. I see the brillance of it, I just don't much care for Alien killing stuff, I'd rather be amongst a Intergalacitic Civil War of Humans vs. Humans. I know the HALO-Faithfull will state that KZ has no chance of winning over the already realized franchise, but I'm arguing the case ahead of time. But then that's like the whole SDF Macross vs. Mobile Suit Gundam {the darker U.C. Calander stuff}. You either dig the Alien Invasion stuff or you dig the Political/Civil War stuff.

You know... The bouncer looked like a new concept they were trying to test out and it just went stagnent. Ive never played it but it looks definently fun.

Thirded. Another thing I liked about it was the music. I do believe the music for Oni was created by Powert of Seven (they did the intro music for Marathon 2 and Infinity). Its too bad Bungie didn't deliver on everything they promised (multiplayer gone, chuncks of the story had been cut, blood was absent). Still a good game never the less, but it could have been sooo much better...

Other not-so-good games that I love are the King's Field games and Evil Zone.

I do not mind the slow pace of the King's Field games. I acually enjoyed the music, game play, story, and ambiance. King's Field 3 in particular, is one of my all-time favorite games. Hell, most of the FROM Software games are looked down upon. But all of their games that I've played so far, I have grown to love.

As for Evil Zone, I approached the game with a very open mind. The only thing I did not like at all about it was the laughable lip-synching and voice acting of the US version. The game play was something different to other fighters. Special sequences durring the fights that would be initiated by certain attacks was also rather unique. The game had plenty of extras and the "anime episode" mode was interesting.

Blue Stinger.

The music is really incredible, and the game has some of the funnier scenes ever when Dogs and Elliot take a bath in the sauna...

Dogs-'Wow, you're more of a man than I thought!'
Elliot-'SHUT UP!'

Not to mention the cool-ass weapon vending machines, bizarre Christmas music in the city, the strange Hello Market...it was a VERY Japanese take on a tired genre and I just thought it was really fun and demented.

The people who don't like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon are morons. I'm with you on that choice.

this game doesn't come close to Final Fight or Streets of Rage, but for some reason I couldn't stop playing this game

Here are some of my shameful secrets:
PS1 - Jumping Flash: The first month I had my PlayStation, I only had the demo disk. This and Blast Chamber tided me over until I bought WipeOut.

NES - Mappy: Stupid cats. I'll show you who the sheriff is in this town.

2600 - Ghostbusters: What was the point of this game? I don't know, but I loved capturing the ghosts in my containment unit.

Oh, there are others but they will only get me marked for life. :D

Mappy rocks... Not quite as much as Clu Clu land but non the less.

For me it would have to be MS4... I really like it (up till the last boss anyway)!

Monster Truck Madness 2 by Micro$oft. I played this thing to the bone back when I first got it, and still enjoy a race now and then. Thing is that online play doesn't work for me now (it used to around 98-00, quite smooth for 56k). I remember pissing people off with this fun glitch: When you call the helicopter (to put you on track) your truck is visible but stuff can pass through it. Depending on your timing and the other guy's position, you can call it off and your truck will act like normal, BUT when a guy is inside the car while it's unhittable and you call off the chopper, he'll go SHOOTING OFF in another direction! Sometimes straight up in the air, sometimes backwards, sometimes way off to the front (and that's when you hope he screws up and misses a checkpoint). I dunno if that's fixed in the unusable online version. I might add I MP3'd the soundtrack to it, it has some nice tunage. It's also a riot to hit the porterpotties and hear "I'm still in here!".

I don't hear of many people playing this, probably because it's kinda old, not a very technical racer, and darned hillbilly-ish!

Bomberman 64 -- People bitched and moaned that the only reason to ever play a Bomberman game (the multiplayer) had been gutted in favor of a more expansive single-player game, but after getting a heavy case of the flu and having pretty much nothing to play but this game really revealed how fun it was. I liked it, anyway, but have never met another person in my life that shares this sentiment.

Mischief Makers -- Friends still bring this up as evidence why my tastes are not to be trusted, but I LOVE this game. I feel like I should join something like AA for this, where people have to stand up one by one, confess they have a problem, and would like it solved by plenty of helpings of Gunstar Heroes and Contra: Hard Corps to show me the error of my ways.

I had bomberman 64. It was pretty fun for something I expected to be dirt. I also expected Cool Spot to suck and, well, it was kinda fun. :glee:

Oh, here are a few other games I have that nobody else seemed to like:
Bug! and the Clockwork Knight games for the Saturn.

Hate Bug!, but Clockwork Knight I played to death. I thought the bosses were really inventive.

Yeah, Bug! was pretty crap but it has its moments, I guess. :)

Exile on Sega Genesis.

Good Action RPG to let off steam on, considering it lasts about 2 hours.

I don't consider any of them god-awful, but:

-Oni (the only Rockstar published game I own at this point)
-The Bouncer (could've been much more, but it's still fun; still one of
the best-looking PS2 games, great character designs, cool soundtrack, decent story)
-KoF 2002 (the best one aside from '98, IMO)
-Gungrave (absurdly underrated)
-The Legend of Dragoon (a Greatest Hit, yes, but a lot of people still hated it)

i actually like a lot of games that other people hate (especially at this forum). one that comes to mind is wreckless: the yakuza missions. the gameplay is very simple and maybe even a bit boring after a while, but those graphics just kept me playing. i guess i'm just a graphics whore.
