The way Zelda games SHOULD have been from the beginning.

Im sick of hearing you people saying stuff like "This is what they should have made Zelda like from the beginning."

Although you are the ones playing the game, you have no creative input into what the game should be like. That is a right reserved to the CREATORS not the CONSUMERS.

All you want is more of the same and it makes you sick when you see anything creative or different.

You are to blame for the state of gaming today more than anyone.

Ditto.

I was skeptical about WW at first, but when I played, I LOVED it. I just can't imagine that game with other graphic style.

I LOVED Wind Waker, but I'm glad to get a realistic Zelda next. Good as WW was, it'd be a shame if no new realistic Zelda's were made as a result to it.

Thats the attitude Im talking about.

Sorry jet, but they shouldnt NEED to make a realistic game.

People are like "yeah WW was good, but THANK GOD theres a realistic one, I dont know what Id do if they made another KIDDIE Zelda game."

:spock:

WW was so fucking great that I don't see a 'shame' at all. There's the realistc Zelda now. Nothing was lost. If they had done different, we would have only a realistic Zelda, and no WW, what would be REALLY a shame.

I'm truly excited about the new Zelda, but I just don't understand why you guys prefered it sooooo much. If they never showed that Spaceworld trailers, nobody would never wanted a realistic Zelda.

I know many people that don't give a damn about the gaming scene, but they are 100% about Zelda. And they just loved WW at first sight, and now they are hyped about the new Zelda trailer.

How about a "give and take" approach instead... Creators give some input, consumers give some input... Creators take the money, consumers take the game... :)

Although, I'd like the "auteur" giving big inputs to the game once in a while... E.G. Miyamoto...

I don't like how newer versions of a franchise or something sometimes include an emulated version of the older titles. It kind of cheapens owning the old ones. But yea, I agree gaming today isn't what it used to be. It was pretty bad for a while but it appears to be getting better. I think this years E3 gave me more hope for the future of gaming. But after all, they're just games. Time to go outside...

What's with the obsession with realism?

NES Zelda1, Zelda2 SNES Zelda 3 and GB Zelda4 weren't realistic by any stretch of the imagination. That worked fine.

What was so wrong with windwaker?

People should just be happy that they are still making Zelda games.. ^_^ I can't wait to try wind waker, the style is different. But it's Zelda, I know it'll be good.

I loved Wind Waker as well. I thought the cel shading gave it a kind of storybook atmosphere, which I felt complimented Zelda perfectly. If they want to change styles again, that's also fine, but I'd prefer a WW style game directed by Miyamoto, than any new Zelda by someone else. Kind of similar to my lack of interest in Metal Gear: the Twin Snakes for GC. Not interested in a Godfather 4 directed by Joel Schumacher either, in case that comes up. I'm not saying Zelda won't be good, I'm just not quite as hyped as I would've been.

Wind Waker was a nice game, but a rather weak link in the Zelda series - and the animation made for 3 yr. olds didn't help with the atmosphere. Sorry if you don't like hearing it - but it's the truth.

Personally, I was happy for both. It was neat to see a 3d game that reminded me of Zelda 3 when wind Waker was shown, and it's great to see a really well developed OoT-type Zelda.

And for years people have said "Nintendo shouldn't listen to the masses"..well you know what? All this has gotten us is a gaming world dominated by media companies that don't give a fuck how gaming is. I don't want Nintendo giving up their artistry, but occasionally listening to the fans doesn't necessitate giving up the artistry. This particular project WILL attract a lot of people who weren't buying GC's back to it (having already seen some die-hard X-Box fanboys getting excited about the idea in life, I've little doubt of that).

I'm certainly glad Nintendo didn't cancel Wind Waker, that would have been tragic, but if Nintendo takes a note from fans now and then who knows what could happen...Animal Crossing online? Mario 128 showing up? Maybe a GC light gun?

Is that so bad?

OoT's Re-dead's alone were scarier than most horror games. =P

BUT its only been since the PSX/N64 days that there has been this 'kiddy' sentiment

People don't buy things they don't like.

Thank god for capitalism, they realize more people would buy the GC and Zelda if they made it like this.

I hated Wind Wakers style. I'm glad they moved away from it.

Yay capitalism. :multi_co:

Im not saying dont listen to fans to improve the way the game plays. Im saying they shouldnt give in to the incesent bitching of "THEY RUINED ZELDA WITH CELL SHADING WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING WHY ISNT IN REALISTIC RATED E WHAT THE FUCK WOULD I PLAY AN E RATED GAME FOR".

There is a world of difference between the two.

I call it x-boxism. When jet set radio future came out cell shading was "cool" but when nintendo did it with Zelda it was "childish".
I couldn't careless if its cell shaded just give me games that are worth the money I spend on them.

Can't really say it was Xboxism, since the majority of the complainers were with Gamecube systems. Considering that the game was coming on THIER system, they wanted it to be more styled like Ocarine of Time, like the original promo pics looked.

And the reason Jet Set Radio was instantly acceptible has nothing to do with hardware it's on. It invented Cell Shading, and Jet Set Radio never looked like anything different, in its entire existance. Nobody would know what to do if JSR ever came out not cell-shaded. The fact that the game constantly pumped out hardcore music (non-censored as well), kind of kept anybody from talking about kiddie stuff. Then you take the art style, which looks more urban and more grown-up (need to be a more mature artist to make) in appearance than the style Zelda went for.

But I would say, Zelda is Zelda. People really should not harp on the game because of a style look. I'd buy it if it looked like the NES versions. Then again, I kind of did (for that collectors pack). The gameplay of Zelda is simple, unique, but addictive, and that gameplay has no graphical dependancies to serve it. Well, except that it needs graphics, in the first place.

I care a lot about the visual style of a game, its almost as important to me as the gameplay. hell, I even played through XIII because I loved the look of it, despite it having a shitty and frustrating control system. I'm really looking forward to okami from capcom because it looks amazing. I haven't got WW yet, but I will do eventually, and from videos I have seen of it I think it looks fantastic. and BTW, JSRF bombed at retail, which suggests the majority of people are not open to new visual styles of games.

The only problem with WW was the game honestly was too fucking short. I couldn't care less if it was cel shades or "realistic," both have their own place in the series.

WW was a beautiful fucking game and a milestone in the series and I would gladly welcome a WW2.

Fuck the "kiddie" label people throw at Nintendo, that is no different than each and every politician that throws out the same lame insults over and over because in reality they can't find anything truly wrong so they find a label that works and beat it to death upon the person (or company) to try and tarnish it's appeal.

I wasn't talking about Jet Set Radio on the Dreamcast. I was talking about Jet Set Radio Future the X-box rehash that came a few years later.

I played XIII but was unable to get into the game because of frustration with the controls. Even with its nice story (not the best) I just got to frustrated to enjoy it.
