I have a US Naomi System now, and I tried to put in a Japanese Naomi Cart, and it says "Error 2. Cart not acceptable."

It maybe that the Cart is dirty, and that's why it's not acceptable, but I'm wondering if it's a Region Thing.

I thought the Naomi was Region Free, or is there an option I have to turn on before I would put in a Jap Cart?

Thanks for any help! :D

I looked this up in the Service Manual I have for my Naomi Main Board, and it lists the following, word-for-word:

ERROR 02
(DISPLAY)
ERROR 02
THIS GAME IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BY MAIN BOARD.
(CAUSE) A game of a certain country's version which is not compatible with the Main BD is connected to the Main BD.
(COUNTERMEASURES) Connet a game of a country's version which is compatible with the Main BD. Country setting change can not be performed in the TEST mode.

I can tell you that I do have a Japanese board (Project Justice) which came with the Main Board in a package deal along with several US titles (bought from Talen), so I assume that particular game was played on the main board or at least is compatible. I haven't used my Naomi board yet and I'm no expert so I don't know what else to tell you. To be honest, I'm not entirely certain which region my main board is, but I believe it's US.

Hope that helps a little.

Try this it worked on mine, unscrew pcb from the Naomi Cart and there is a small jumper next to the EPROM, swap the setting and plug back in and try. My Spawn cartridge had the same problem and that solved it. Worth a try heh?

I don't understand, I unscrewed the PCB from Cartridge, and flipped it over. What am I looking for now?

What should I do, and why are there the same connectors on the other side if the PCB??? Is it interchangeable, like plug it in with the PCB facing the other way?

Ok, it would help to name the cart in question, but I found on the Capcom (I have only tried MVC2 and Spawn) Naomi carts if you unscrew the pcb from the case at one end of the pcb is a removable chip simular looking to a Neo Geo MVS Bios chip. right next to it are three pins with a jumper, swap the jumper setting and screw the pcb back to the cart and replace in the machine.. while your there give it a blast from an airspray!
Another thing to try which I have probs with a GGX cart is it won't load so I press the test button and go through the menu and adjust the usual things like freeplay etc then get out of the menu and start the game again and It still won't work but will if I power off then on after I go into the menu.... fucking weird! It does that on both my US motherboard and Jap motherboard

The game im' trying to play is Toukon Retsuden 4:Arcade Edition

I opened the mofo up, and there is no Eprom, there are 3 of those things you mentioned, a "JP1 Use/Not Use", a 64MB/128MB", and a "Bank0/Bank1"....

The one I changed in my carts was JP1 Use/Not use but that is the only one I had.

Well, here's something interesting, even thougn it refuses to play it, it KNOWS what game it is.

I fiddled around with the Menu like you said, and in the menu is says "NJPW Toukon Retsuden4".

So if it already knows what frigging game it iss, why doesn't it play it??

I think on GGX I could change between USA and JAP version, It may have been in the actual Game test mode. I think I also reset the game's memory try doing that if you have the option, it may be that it has previous memory from a different motherboard? Keep fiddling man you get it!

There's no language option, and it seems that it has already been reset, I checked the records, and it says that it has not been played for even a second. :eye:

You can not play that game on a US bios. There is nothing you can do other than get a jp bios.

I have a jp bios image that i can send you if you have access to a burner.

 That sucks!

What if I were to buy a Giant Gram 2000, or Outtrigger? Would those JP Versions be playable on a US Bios?

Giant Gram will work, so will outtrigger

Remembar, outtrigger needs a special control panel and i/o board to be played, the one listed on ebay is ussless without the cp.

I think you can put a communication cart between the motherboard and the game cart to link 2 cabs, that's why there are 2 connectors.

I would really like to now more about region protection on Naomi, and specially about the bios. Is it easy to replace it (i.e. is it socketed?). What type of EEPROM should be used to replace it?

OK, I found a lot of info here:

http://www.world-of-arcades.com/APPA_Info_Naomi_System.htm

They claim the Naomi has no region protection, but they are wrong because, as we have seen in this thread, there are some obscure Japanese games without an English option that play only on Japanese bios.

Fortunately, they have available bios for download plus instructions on burning them:

To create a Naomi Bios Chip, burn the program on a 27C160 Eprom. Unfortunately this a 42Pin Chip which is supported only by a small number of Eprom Programmers. Furthermore it is somewhat expensive.

So it is basically the same as having burnt a unibios Eprom for the MVS (it's 40 pin), but more expensive due to the 42 pin.

Well, it depends... If you just one to play Naomi games at home, you are better buying a DC. Even if you have a cab, it could be better to just hook the DC to it. Having a Naomi is more for the die-hard sega/arcade fans. I'm considering getting one in the future, when they are dirt cheap, to have fun making it work and collecting purposes.

I almost bought one yesterday

I saw a great priced Naomi on Ebay last night. I saw Dark Andy was bidding on it, so I backed off :blow_top: Dark Andy, let me how you like it & how the seller is...please

Amano, thanks for the reply. I want to put it in a cabinet in my arcade route. I really loved the look of Gundam and Spike Gunner. I think it has great graphics. Is Sega still supporting the Naomi?

Take it easy

Just look at who was the first bidder in that auction... :eye: :eye:

Anyway I noticed Dark Andy was the high bidder for both the motherboard and the lector, although it stated that the motherboard had bios D, which is not compatible with the lector, so he'll have to replace the bios as I explained if he wants to use them together.

I want to get a Naomi 1 without lector and without any wiring first, just to see if I manage to make it work myself.

I got the Gundam VS Zeon, JP Naomi MB, and the GD-Rom. :buttrock:

I actually did not know that, and the Seller told me, so I told him I did not know that, but I'd buy them anyway. :)

THEN, he said he had changed the Bios for me, and he says both are compatible now. :mr_t:

So so far he is a great Seller, now I'm just waiting for the Stuff! :D
